Route description

Here Transfăgărășan passes beneath the principal Făgăraș ridge. The crossing begins at the northern portal on the Bâlea side and ends to the south towards Capra valley. The interest lies in the mountain road itself: this tunnel links two very different ridge approaches. It is a road connection to include in a prearranged Făgăraș journey only after checking permission for pedestrian passage. Inside, attention belongs to traffic; examine the portals and pause outside in a safe location. Mountain lakes and paths to the saddles need separate outings.
