Route description

Gvirgvina rises above the wooded Gujaretistskali and Nedzvi valleys on a spur of the Trialeti Ridge. This version approaches from the west, climbs out of the forest to the summit area and then returns to the connecting path. The continuation leads towards Shuano’s wooded slopes. Revisiting the junctions is part of the journey: after the summit, return along the familiar approach instead of seeking a direct descent into another valley. With nights and transport arranged beforehand, it becomes a substantial introduction to the relationship between Gvirgvina and the Nedzvi mountain country. Shuano’s summit requires a separate continuation.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The start is in wooded mountain country west of Gvirgvina, requiring a separate drop-off and exit arrangement. The full version with returns to junctions suits prepared adults with an overnight plan. Protected-area rules prohibit pets; bicycle permission and coverage are unconfirmed.

Nearby

Timotesubani Monastery and Tsaghveri lie on another approach side and are not stops on this western passage. The Gvirgvina tourist shelter stands away from the selected line and needs a separately agreed approach for an overnight stay. Shuano’s summit is also outside the established ending: visiting it requires an additional mountain outing.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Public transport to Borjomi is confirmed. Independently arrange a ride to the western woodland start and pickup after the Shuano-side outing with the administration or a local guide. A scheduled service to both mountain points is unconfirmed.
By car
Agree a drop-off and permitted approach while registering at the visitor centre. Do not assume an ordinary vehicle can reach the high forest start. Settle the Nedzvi-side pickup after choosing an actual descent; the final woodland point is not itself an established vehicle meeting area.
Parking
There is no confirmed parking information for either mountain end. Agree vehicle storage and a separate return ride before walking.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 2277 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The main demand is a long mountain plan with ascent, return and onward travel. An older Gvirgvina description requires retracing its approach because other descents were unsafe. Do not apply that warning indiscriminately to another path, but confirm the modern continuation with the administration. Wet woodland slopes and junctions need particularly careful walking.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 17–22 h
With stops | 2–3 days Allow 2–3 days of walking for the complete selected line: the western approach and Gvirgvina visit, the return to the connecting path, then continuation towards Shuano’s wooded slopes. Agree nights with the administration; a nearby shelter does not guarantee access or space. A shorter Gvirgvina ascent and return needs its own plan. The older Tsaghveri programme does not supply a duration for this version.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose summer or early autumn with settled weather and confirmed access. Fog on the upper section complicates junction choices; snow requires another equipment and skills plan. Before the season, check the entire connection towards Shuano.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Mountain footwear, waterproofs and warm clothing for the open upper section.
Food, water treatment and agreed overnight equipment.
An offline map, a light and backup power; registration documents and an agreed local guide contact.
