Route description

From Marelisi, the national park unfolds through a wooded valley towards Sakhvlari and then the higher mountain country. This extended version includes passages near Sametskhvario shelter, the Atskuri side and Khergianis Mta, with returns along familiar paths. Shelters become useful journey landmarks: settle an overnight stop there before continuing towards another upper connection. The final passage returns to Marelisi’s woodland side but ends before the settlement. This is a broad exploration of Borjomi-Kharagauli requiring its own overnight plan and agreement on the complete sequence of passages.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The complete extended variant, with branches and repeated passages, needs several nights, mountain experience and an agreed exit. Official national-park rules prohibit pets. Bicycle access and mobile reception throughout the journey are unconfirmed.

Nearby

Sametskhvario’s summit and the Iron Cross lie away from the precise selected passage: visiting the shelter does not mean reaching those top points. Lomismta and Saint George Church belong to a separate side of the Romanov trail and are not included as stops here. Leave Borjomi’s spa park for another day after returning.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car

By car
During registration, agree an achievable Marelisi-side drop-off and an exit from the final woodland point. Reaching the settlement does not establish vehicle access to Sakhvlari or Sametskhvario. Settle pickup after identifying a permitted final approach.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 7492 м.
SurfaceDirt 3%, Improved surface 1%, Unknown 96%.
Риски The total demand comes from prolonged mountain days, returns and several path connections. Higher sections require settled weather and energy reserves; check bridges and crossings in the wooded valleys. A mapped path does not establish present passability. Agree the western branches and full return sequence with the administration; avoid direct shortcuts across unfamiliar slopes or rivers.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 40–50 h
With stops | 6–8 days Allow 6–8 days of walking for the entire selected version, plus a separate weather reserve. The sequence begins with the Marelisi approach to Sakhvlari, followed by mountain passages around Sametskhvario, the Atskuri side and returns involving Khergianis Mta. The final section returns to Marelisi’s woodland side but ends before the settlement. Agree the precise night sequence and permitted connections during registration; the standard four-day St Andrew programme does not cover this extended version.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose summer or early autumn after checking the upper passages and valley crossings. Rain complicates the woodland approaches; fog and early snow affect the high country. Retain an option to wait out the weather or shorten the journey through an agreed exit.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Mountain footwear, waterproofs and warm layers for several nights.
Food for the full plan, water treatment and agreed camping or shelter equipment.
