Route description

From the northern side of Vršič Pass, the path climbs to Vratca Saddle, then continues towards Slatnica and Slemenova Špica. After the initial ascent, woodland and low pine scrub lead to open grassy ground below the summit. The summit completes the selected outing with an outlook towards Tamar and Planica. Autumn brings golden larches against the rocky walls of the Julian Alps. Plan the return to the pass separately.

Nearby

Vršič’s huts and neighbouring mountain outings can be visited on a separate programme after returning. Mala Mojstrovka, the Hanzova path and a further descent to Tamar require different terrain and transport planning. Jalovec and Ponce are visible mountains, beyond the summits reached by this walk.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Summer services between Kranjska Gora and Bovec reach Vršič. The published 2026 timetable ends in September and does not establish October operation. Check for a new timetable or prearrange a transfer. Return from the summit to the road pass afterwards; transport directly from Slemenova Špica is not provided.
By car
Reach Vršič by the pass road from Kranjska Gora or Trenta. September2026 arrangements separate approaching vehicles: the right lane serves upper public parking when spaces are available, while the left lane carries transit traffic. Follow signs and stewards’ instructions. Check road access separately during snowfall.
Parking
Public Parking at Vršič Pass opened in September2026 and is free until the end of 2026 according to the official notice. Entry depends on available spaces, displayed before the barrier. These conditions do not automatically apply to private hut parking. When full, turn at an authorised area or continue in transit without blocking its lane.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 115 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The first ascent is steeper than the later passage, and uneven mountain ground calls for grippy footwear. Assess wet, icy or foggy conditions before continuing. Children need confidence on mountain paths, and dogs must remain on a lead. Avoid improvising a shorter return on neighbouring equipped routes towards Mojstrovka. Check PZS closures before travelling.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 h 7 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow an estimated 1.5–2 hours for the ascent to Slemenova Špica with pauses. Add the return and summit rest separately; allow roughly 3–4 hours for a visit returning to Vršič. This is an approximate plan for dry, snow-free paths. Start earlier in late autumn to finish before dark.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Prefer snow-free summer days or clear, dry autumn weather. Golden autumn larches are especially attractive, although early snow and ice can arrive in the same period. Winter needs a different mountain plan. Check the bus season separately from the path’s appeal and conditions.
