Route description

From upper Faloria, the Dolomieu path runs north along the slope above Cortina d’Ampezzo. Faloria Hut stands beside the departure area, followed by the Crepe di Faloria rocky edges and larch woodland. Open sections alternate with forest, offering changing perspectives over the mountain basin. The selected descent ends at a woodland connection above the Rio Gere road area. Add the onward road exit separately; the current cable-car closure also changes the approach to the upper departure.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
Named after Déodat de Dolomieu, the path connects the appeal of the Dolomites with their rocky structure. Faloria’s larches and cliffs create a varied descent where pauses invite a closer look at mountain walls and Cortina below. Arrange the upper approach before choosing this hillside walk.

Nearby

Cliffhanger Lodge, its former cable-car station and film location require a separate approach. From the Rio Gere road area, consider a further walk towards Larieto or Mandres after checking connections and transport. Sorapiss Lake and other mountain routes are beyond the selected descent.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Reach Cortina d’Ampezzo first, then separately organise access to upper Faloria. On 12 October2026 the operator shows the Cortina–Faloria passenger cable car as closed. Without it, a separate mountain ascent is needed beyond the selected descent. Agree transport from the eventual Rio Gere road exit using a current timetable or a transfer.
By car
Plan the vehicle journey to the lower Cortina or Rio Gere road area. A car does not reach the upper departure directly. Arrange the Faloria ascent and the return after the woodland finish beforehand. With the operator currently showing the cable car closed, calculate the entire walking programme.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Check an authorised place in your selected lower road area before entering the mountains. The upper departure and woodland finish are separate from the vehicle. Keep road and local access clear.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 132 м.
SurfaceDirt 55%, Compacted dirt 11%, Unknown 34%.
Риски Natural-surface mountain paths pass beside rocky edges in places. Choose the correct direction at junctions; rain and early ice make descending harder. Children need familiarity with uneven mountain ground, and dogs should remain under control. Cycling permission on this selected walking passage is unconfirmed. An exterior hut visit does not establish interior services.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 h 10 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow an estimated 1.5–2 hours for the selected upper descent and pauses. Add the Faloria ascent and the onward walk from the woodland finish to road transport separately. With the cable car closed, the short upper walk may form part of a substantially longer mountain day.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Prefer snow-free summer and early autumn days with clear visibility. Autumn larches add colour, but early snow and ice can change the passage. Check lift operation for the chosen day; ordinary summer service does not automatically extend into October.
