Route description

From Armentarola the path gradually approaches the rock walls and rises through Col de Locia onto the open upper Fanes landscape. The valley-side start gives way to steps and metal cables, followed by easier walking across meadows. At the first geological observation stop, look for large bends in rock layers: they help reveal the forces that raised the Alps. Limo Lake follows, its waterside passage preceding the namesake pass. Beyond the saddle, the second geostop draws attention to neighbouring meadows, steep slopes and exposed rock. The descent passes the exterior of Fanes Hut before continuing into the Pederü valley. The hut is currently closed, so carry food and supplies for the complete crossing. The finish is in another valley, making the return to Armentarola a separate part of the journey.

Other Fanes approaches from La Valle and San Leonardo need independent plans. Arrange the nature-park visitor centre and San Vigilio walks separately. Col Becchei and Lavarella summits are excluded from the selected Limo crossing.

Without a car
The official stage card confirms bus 465 between La Villa and Armentarola. Check current departures before travelling. A complete verified return transport arrangement from Pederü is unavailable; agree it beforehand for the other-valley finish.
By car
Reach Armentarola by SP 37 from Val Badia or SP 24 from Falzarego Pass. Leave the vehicle on the lower start side. Retrieval after finishing in Pederü needs separate planning; the upper walking passage is not a vehicle connection between valleys.
Parking
The official author reports parking in Armentarola. The exact site, current terms and available spaces are unconfirmed; check them beforehand. Vehicle storage must cover the complete day and agreed return journey.

Storms, fog and wind quickly affect the open plateau; the lengthy descent reduces the reserve near the end of the day. Confirm this particular crossing’s conditions before setting off. The hut closure removes confirmed services but does not itself establish closure of every path.
