Route description

From Nuvolau Hut, the selected passage descends the upper Ra Gusela section and continues towards an eastern mountain connection. The historic building above the cliffs gives the outing a striking departure before attention turns to rocky ledges, a ladder and steel cables. This equipped mountain passage suits prepared participants confident on descents. The fragment finishes in the mountains, with an onward exit towards Giau Pass planned separately. The hut is currently closed, so carry your own water and food.

Nearby

Ra Gusela’s summit, Averau Hut, the Cinque Torri area and the full Giau Pass circuit need additional connections. They are separate from the selected descent. Nuvolau first opened in 1883; entry, meals and accommodation depend on hut operation. Its current listing reports closure and a planned reopening next summer.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
First reach a lower road approach, then walk up to Nuvolau Hut. Published summer service 53 to Giau Pass does not establish October 2026 operation. Check a current operator notice or arrange a transfer. The upper walking approach and the exit after the equipped passage remain separate parts of the visit even when a bus operates.
By car
End the vehicle journey at an authorised road area near Giau and choose a separate mountain approach to Nuvolau. The hut is accessible only on foot. The selected descent ends on a mountain path, so establish the onward return to the vehicle beforehand. Seasonal chairlifts do not offer guaranteed year-round access.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Check authorised arrangements in the lower road area before departure. There is no vehicle space at the hut. Include the upper approach, equipped descent and complete onward road exit in the parking duration.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 50 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The operator explicitly requires via ferrata equipment on Ra Gusela. Bring a helmet, harness and suitable via ferrata set, with the skills to descend equipped rock. Children need relevant preparation and competent supervision. Postpone in snow, ice, thunderstorms or wet-rock conditions. Do not rely on the closed hut’s services.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 35 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow an estimated 1–2 hours for the selected equipped descent and pauses. Add the Nuvolau ascent and onward road exit separately; together they form a substantial mountain day. The ordinary Giau circuit’s timing does not describe this variation. Check direction arrangements and possible encounters with ascending groups before setting out.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Prefer a snow-free summer period with dry rock and settled weather. Early snow and ice can change conditions in October. The hut is already closed, with the next summer season planned for 2027. Assess the equipped route’s conditions separately from hut operation.
