Route description

From Glungezer Hut the direction first rises onto the actual Glungezer summit, then follows the southern rocky ridge past the Gamslahnerspitze side towards Kreuzspitze. Rosenjoch, Grünbergspitze and Grafmartspitze provide distinct high stops while boulders and cable-protected ground demand continuing attention. Beyond Naviser Jöchl, the terrain and access rules change as the route enters military ground. The eastern portion crosses Mölsjoch and Klammjoch, reveals Klammsee from the permitted path and descends to Lizumer Hut. This selected direction passes beside Northern Schoberspitze and does not promise seven visited summits. Both huts are currently between seasons, while Glungezer Hut closes for summer 2027 renovation without emergency lodging. Settle the high-start approach and subsequent lower exit independently before travelling.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - Patchy The start is already at a high hut after a separate approach. Boulders, cable-protected passages and the lengthy crossing require experienced mountain walkers. Cycling is prohibited in the military portion; a stroller and ordinary children’s outing are unsuitable. Dog rules throughout are unconfirmed. The operator explicitly warns that reception is intermittent.

Nearby

Northern Schoberspitze requires a separate permitted summit branch and is excluded from this direction. Sonnenspitze, Mölssee and Viggartal’s Blue Lakes also lie on independent branches. The operator recommends a lower Wattens-to-Lizumer Hut approach as a different outing during upper-hut renovation.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
For the separate Glungezer Hut approach, the operator confirms bus 540 to lower Tulfes, working lift sections to Tulfein and a walking ascent. This does not itself deliver to the high start early enough: the renovation notice specifically advises against treating the first morning lift as an ordinary overnight-stay replacement before the long crossing. Confirm an independent early approach and departure after the lower exit.
By car
Lower Tulfes-side arrival follows A 12 and L 9, with the upper approach independent. The crossing ends in another valley, requiring a settled vehicle-retrieval plan. Military-ground driving needs special permission; the military road does not establish tourist vehicle access.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Check permitted lower vehicle storage for the complete independently chosen approach, crossing and return. Huts, passes and military areas are not established parking for this undertaking.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 899 м.
SurfaceCompacted dirt 31%, Unknown 69%.
Риски Boulders, rock slabs and cables require secure footing, confidence with exposure and the ability to use hands. Reception is intermittent, and the operator confirms no refill source during the crossing. Before Naviser Jöchl onward, check current military closure zones and hours; enter only on visible approved paths outside closures. Avoid lake detours, tents and bypassing control posts. Closed huts do not guarantee food or shelter.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 7.5–8.5 h
With stops | 9–10 h The operator’s upper-ridge allowance underlies this estimate, with a reserve for retained repeated portions and careful rock travel. It covers high-hut start to Lizumer Hut. Add the initial approach, subsequent inhabited-valley exit and their transport separately. Overnight stays are not confirmed, particularly during Glungezer Hut’s announced renovation.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Ordinary walking requires dry snow-free rock, sufficient daylight and a settled forecast. Military-ground passage is permitted only where the path is clearly visible; snow does not authorize repeating the summer direction. Check hut seasons separately; in summer 2027 the upper hut provides no lodging, including emergency sleeping.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Mountain footwear for boulders, a warm layer and wind, rain and sun protection.
Water for the complete crossing without relying on refills; food for the full approach and exit.
A headlamp, first aid, emergency bag and communication; an approved-path map and current military announcements.
