Route description

This mountain passage starts in the upper Kamenka valley and reaches Chertovo Lake’s western side. The valley path gradually opens into the pass basin, where water and surrounding slopes provide the main impression. It finishes beside the lake before Chertovy Gate’s actual saddle. The passage suits a separate part of an already prepared Khamar-Daban journey: first reach its remote start, then arrange a return or onward stage independently. Baikal’s shoreline and Chersky Peak are outside this programme. Pause by the lake and observe woodland giving way to open mountain surroundings.
