Route description

From Orlyonok, this outing links three natural sculptures, each approached through a different forest setting. It first leaves the riverside section for higher forest roads and makes a side visit to Smolensky Rock. Forest and boulder fields replace a comfortable strolling path below the outcrop; the stop offers an outlook toward the Smolensky Creek valley. After viewing it, return to the main forest road and continue toward Old Fortress. At Old Fortress, granite suggests ruins: figures, towers and sections of natural wall create a stone town to examine. The road then leads down toward Zyryansky Creek before a further ascent beyond the river crossing. Camel Rock provides the finale, with a head and hump visible from suitable angles. Explore its forms from safe ground rather than hurrying onto the upper edge. The outing ends at Camel Rock. Choose and prepare a return to Orlyonok separately, planning around the river crossing’s actual condition and available daylight.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
For three contrasting Olkha Plateau forms: wooded Smolensky, Old Fortress’s granite ruins and Camel’s recognisable silhouette. The first side visit and the later changes between ridges and a creek valley give the approach variety. Take time to compare the natural shapes and see how a formation changes as the viewing angle shifts.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data For a walker confident at forest junctions and able to assess a river crossing. Rail can serve the start, but return transport is not established at Camel Rock. The Smolensky approach does not have a clear path everywhere, so this is unsuitable as a simple outing with a young child. Check conditions and crossings before taking a dog. The complete course is not established for cycling, a stroller is unsuitable, and continuous reception is unconfirmed.

Nearby

Kurumniy Rock beside Smolensky and Zyryanovsky Rock near the final section require separate branches and are not visited here. Zerkala and Vityaz are other directions from forest junctions. Old Fortress and Fortress are distinct natural formations: this outing visits Old Fortress. Its Count’s Ruins nickname does not indicate a historical estate or museum.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Arrive at Orlyonok Railway Halt by suburban train from Irkutsk. Check the present service and platform approach beforehand. Cross the operating railway only at the equipped pedestrian crossing under its rules. Camel Rock lies in the forest away from rail arrival, so prepare a return walk and a reserve before the chosen train in advance.
By car
Prepare car arrival at Orlyonok via Shelekhov and Bolshoy Lug, then along the road beside the railway. The last unpaved sections depend on weather and present conditions; older reports of ordinary-car access are not a check for the travel day. Forest roads and former quarry approaches do not establish a continuation for driving. Vehicle access to Camel Rock and collection there are unconfirmed.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Agree vehicle storage at Orlyonok beforehand or choose rail arrival. Keep railway service approaches, platform access and forest junctions clear. An open area of ground near a former quarry does not establish permitted parking.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceDirt 41%, Dirt / grass 5%, Asphalt 1%, Unknown 53%.
Риски The Smolensky side visit includes steep ground, forest without a clear path and a boulder field. Navigation and the option to turn back before deteriorating weather matter. Below Old Fortress, the Zyryansky Creek crossing is mapped as a ford: check its condition beforehand and do not follow this option in high water. The initial Olkha crossings also need present assessment. Avoid climbing wet moss, crumbling edges and iced slabs; view natural towers and cracks from below unless a safe upper approach is established.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 5 h 31 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Time for the route | Unestablished With stops | Unestablished Allow separately for the forest ascent, Smolensky side visit, Old Fortress and approach to Camel Rock. Add an independently prepared return. Short estimates for the individual formations do not describe this combined outing. River conditions and navigation can take longer than expected: keep a daylight reserve and choose the return train only around a realistic walking approach.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose dry snow-free conditions and low stream levels. Prolonged rain changes forest roads, boulder surfaces and the ford; shaded rocks can ice during seasonal changes. Nearby winter ski circuits do not establish access along this rocky walking outing. Check present forest restrictions and surfaces before travelling.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Walking boots with grip, a warm layer and rain protection.
Drinking water and food for the approach and independently prepared return; the creek is not an established drinking-water supply.
A forest-junction map, compass, headlamp, charged phone and backup power.
Personal first-aid supplies, seasonal tick protection and a rubbish bag.
A plan for checking the river crossing and a decision for high water; improvised crossings are not a fallback.
