Route description

At Kaindy, pale spruce trunks seem to continue growing out of the water. Leaving this familiar excursion shore, the walk crosses the mountain country near Saty before reaching Lower Kolsay. Its appeal is the space between the two celebrated lakes: country that remains outside the windows on a driving tour. The final waterside stop at the first Kolsay lake invites a slower pace after a complete mountain day.

Choose this crossing when a quick look at Kaindy’s drowned forest feels insufficient. Two lake gorges bookend a substantial walk through the Kungey Alatau.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data This long lake-to-lake crossing suits adults with mountain walking experience. Without your own car, arrange drop-off and pickup; ask the national park about dogs, bicycles and provider coverage.

Nearby

Walking onward to Middle Kolsay is a separate outing from the Lower lake and needs its own time allowance. Saty offers a useful overnight base; Charyn Canyon belongs to another trip and is not on this crossing.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Use Saty as a base for planning transport. Book a local ride to Kaindy and pickup at Lower Kolsay through your accommodation or an operator; a regular service linking the mountain trailheads has not been confirmed.
By car
Arrange the journey from Almaty to Saty, then onward to Kaindy. Local operators use four-wheel-drive vehicles on the mountain approach. A car left at Kaindy will be in another gorge when you finish, so settle the return ride before walking.
Parking
The national park describes vehicle parking on the Kaindy approach. Confirm overnight parking and the exact Lower Kolsay pickup point with the administration; a roadside verge is not a substitute for an authorised parking place.

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceDirt 58%, Artificial surface 21%, Compacted dirt 13%.
Риски Do not judge this crossing by the short waterside strolls at either end. The intervening mountain paths require spare energy, especially on wet earth and stones after rain. Confirm direction, overnight arrangements and current restrictions with the park; worsening weather does not offer a quick return to a car.

How much time to allow

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose summer or early autumn with a settled forecast. Lake excursions also run in the shoulder seasons, but that does not establish that the entire mountain crossing remains passable after snowfall.
