Route description

Kaindy can be reached from another valley: leave Kurmety village behind and ascend its mountain gorge. The journey links the surroundings of Lake Saty with Kaindy, where drowned spruce trunks stand above the water. Here the famous flooded forest becomes the conclusion of a mountain journey, rather than a brief stop after a drive. It is an absorbing way to understand how the Kungey Alatau’s neighbouring gorges connect.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The Kurmety–Kaindy walk requires mountain experience and an overnight plan. A drop-off can be arranged, but a scheduled service to this starting point is not confirmed. Agree dog and bicycle access with the park.

Nearby

Lower Kolsay can be visited afterwards by travelling to another gorge. Walking onward from Kaindy to Kolsay is a separate Alatau Amanaty crossing and needs a fresh overnight plan.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Arrange a drop-off in Kurmety and return transport from Kaindy via Saty. Accommodation in Saty is a useful place to contact a driver, but this walk starts in the neighbouring village.
By car
Plan to begin in Kurmety. The field road ascending the gorge is mapped as suitable for a high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle; do not assume an ordinary car can reach the upper valley. A walking start in the village only needs an agreed drop-off point.
Parking
For a multi-day absence, agree car storage with accommodation in Kurmety. Guarded parking at the walking start has not been confirmed. Set the Kaindy pickup location with your driver before departure.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 1986 м.
SurfaceDirt 66%, Artificial surface 19%, Compacted dirt 4%.
Риски The Kurmety field road and valley crossings require confident route choices. Conditions on a driving excursion to Kaindy do not establish conditions here: rain and snowfall change exit options. Ask a local guide about water crossings and permitted overnight sites.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 12–16 h
With stops | 2 days Split the walk into mountain stages with an agreed overnight stop. Lake Saty lies along the way, but a lakeside location does not itself establish camping permission or drinkable water.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Plan a summer walk after snow has cleared from the chosen crossing. Early autumn needs warm layers and a daylight margin. Check the mountain sections separately from the availability of lake excursions.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Carry overnight mountain equipment, rain protection, a warm layer and footwear with grip on wet earth.
Plan food and water treatment for the entire journey between the village and Kaindy.
An offline map and backup power are valuable between valleys.
