Route description

Kvartsitny places stone-working history beside a great lake. This outing begins on the village’s Lake Onega side, passes the Quartzite Monument and approaches quarry country. It then returns along western roads and a village street near its shore beginning. A western side excursion is partly retraced on the return. Shoksha raspberry quartzite became renowned as a decorative stone, used in major architectural ensembles and memorials. Here, explore its place of origin and the village associated with extraction. The roadside monument introduces the subject, while the quarry landscape places it in its geographical setting. Onega offers a different perspective, providing the open-water side at the beginning and return. Agree current access arrangements before attempting the complete circuit. Industrial activity continues in the area, and a road does not establish public passage through a quarry. Observe only from permitted places, respecting fences and instructions on site. If northern or western approaches are closed, avoid attempting to complete the circuit through restricted land; visiting extraction areas requires separate arrangements.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data Primary sources identify village bus arrival, but confirm the operating service, approach and complete quarry-loop access. Industrial roads and unprotected edges are unsuitable for an ordinary children’s walk or stroller. Dog rules, complete-route cycling and reception are unestablished.

Nearby

Shoksha village and the Sheltozero Vepsian Ethnographic Museum offer further exploration of local stone history and Vepsian culture. These are separate trips; museum objects and village churches are outside this circuit’s visits. Neighbouring leisure bases, food and shore services have independent arrangements. Raspberry quartzite does not imply every exposure has identical colouring or that collecting stone is permitted.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The geological guide identifies Petrozavodsk bus arrival towards Kaskesruchey, stopping at Kvartsitny, while the Karelia government confirms bus services on the village road. Check the operating service, stop, timetable and return with the carrier. Prepare a separate approach from village arrival to the lakeside beginning; a bus service does not establish quarry-road access permission.
By car
The village road serves Kvartsitny from Shoksha, with primary sources confirming this land arrival. Arrange the final stopping location and permitted walking approach to shore separately. Passenger-car access along all industrial and western side roads is unconfirmed; quarry entry has independent conditions.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. A permitted public space for the selected lakeside beginning is unestablished. Find out where parking is permitted and agree the approach beforehand. Keep village roads, industrial entrances and shore passages clear.

Quarry Landscape by Kvartsitny the actual quarry area beside the northern approach. Observe only from permitted places; internal passage is not guaranteed.
Lake Onega Shore by Kvartsitny the village’s lakeside setting at the beginning and return. Check direct water access and shore-use conditions separately.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 44 м.
SurfaceArtificial surface 22%, Unknown 78%.
Риски First confirm the complete permitted passage: current works, machinery, fences and industrial instructions take priority over the proposed circuit. Keep away from quarry faces, slopes and unstable edges, avoiding working areas. Give way to vehicles on roads; rain can make ground and stone slippery. Shore access does not imply an equipped swimming area. Avoid collecting specimens or damaging rock surfaces without permission, and avoid solitary exploration of unprotected industrial areas.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 h 20 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Time for the route | Unestablished With stops | Unestablished Overall time is unestablished: confirm northern/western circuit access and permitted sightseeing locations first. The monument, a shore pause and agreed quarry exploration require separate time. Allow reserves for buses and recovery; avoid crossing working areas to bypass a closure and meet a timetable.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose daylight, dry surfaces and confirmed access. Rain, wet rock, ice and snow alter stability on unprotected approaches. Industrial restrictions are not purely seasonal. Account for wind beside Onega and avoid hazardous shore edges; a complete winter passage is unestablished.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Stable-soled footwear for village roads, ground and stone.
Wind/rain protection and an additional warm layer.
Drinking water and food.
Phone with an offline map, battery reserve and torch.
Small first-aid kit.
Agreed access and return-transport arrangements; the receiving operator sets protective-equipment requirements for an organised industrial visit.
