Route description

Vottovaara’s southern version begins below the ascent and follows woodland towards Guardian Stone and the Stone Bench. Higher up, Ukko’s Head and the Natural Amphitheatre’s rocky ledges appear. After circling this central section, the path descends to a separate forest finish on the southern slope. It remains above the original entrance side, so include an additional return to your transfer meeting. This outing concentrates on the wooded ascent and southern stone formations. Obtain the permit in advance and confirm current conditions for the selected path with the national park.

What to expect

Places
Guardian Stone This named boulder is encountered on the southern ascent, providing an initial stone landmark before the upper circuit.
Stone Bench A flat stone formation beside the walking path. Its name describes a natural rock rather than installed street furniture.
Ukko’s Head A boulder with a recognisable stone profile on the approach to the central rocks. Avoid climbing it for photographs.
Natural Amphitheatre The edge of the rocky depression around which this southern version’s upper section passes. View its stone ledges from the path.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Roots and rocky ground on the ascent become slippery after rain. The upper circuit approaches rock ledges; keep children close and avoid descending into fissures. Leave stone formations unclimbed. Reaching the forest finish still leaves the onward path to the lower entrance side.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 h 9 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Plan a day outing with a separate return after the finish. Complete duration is unconfirmed. Divide time between the southern ascent, stone stops, upper circuit and additional descent to the meeting. Keep a separate daylight reserve for the remaining descent and meeting.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose snow-free conditions with the route open and stable weather. Rain increases slipperiness on stones and roots; start earlier in autumn. Agree winter access to this particular southern version and its additional exits separately.
