Route description

From Beloostrov, this outing gradually exchanges station surroundings for pine paths and the open expanses of Sestroretsk Marsh. The railway-side approach is already included. It leads into an ecological-trail circuit, where boardwalk sections and viewing stops reveal the wetland landscape from an authorised passage. The route then returns towards the station. Changes of scale create much of its appeal. Small marsh pines and wet-ground vegetation are close at hand; farther away, open wetland surrounds wooded islands. This variant actually passes several western, southern and eastern viewing places. The directorate explains varied wetland habitats and ancient coastal forms. Rare birds and animals may occur, but sightings are unpromised. Stay out of the bog when photographing: a dry-looking surface does not establish firm ground.

Route suitability

For a pedestrian outing including the station approach and return. Keep children on paths and boardwalks, away from bog edges. The operator prohibits walking domestic animals and asks visitors not to cycle along the ecological trail. Complete-approach and branch accessibility for strollers is unconfirmed.

Nearby

Sestroretsky Razliv Lake belongs to the protected surroundings, but this circuit does not promise its shore. The Shalash museum complex and other Sestroretsk walks lie separately. Leave time for returning to Beloostrov before adding further visits.

Getting there

Show on map
Without a car
The directorate recommends a suburban train from Finlyandsky Station towards Vyborg, alighting at Beloostrov. This variant genuinely starts on the railway side and already includes the pedestrian approach towards Zheleznodorozhnaya Street. Check your train’s stopping pattern and return timetable; separate bus options require present-service verification.
By car
Approach Beloostrov and choose an authorised roadside area beside the station or on Novoye Highway as identified by the directorate. Continue towards the ecological trail on foot. A road towards the wetland does not authorise driving into the reserve; parking on Zheleznodorozhnaya Street is prohibited.
Parking
The operator confirms a station-front area at Beloostrov suited to this departure, plus separate locations on the Novoye Highway side. Check spaces and present conditions before travelling. Avoid leaving vehicles on Zheleznodorozhnaya Street, where the directorate warns of fines and towing.

Difficult sections and safety

Elevation gain
SurfaceDirt 76%, Asphalt 22%.
Wet boards, ice, uneven approach ground and bog edges require care. If a boardwalk is damaged or flooded, avoid bypassing through the bog; return by an authorised passage. Keep off moss and do not descend towards water from viewing places. If an adder appears, give it room to leave without touching or cornering it.

How much time to allow

Allow approximately 2.5–3.5 hours for this complete variant, including the Beloostrov approach, circuit and pauses. This is an editorial estimate for the whole outing rather than just the shorter ecological trail. Add the train journey and return waiting separately.

Best time to go

Snow-free conditions reveal wetland vegetation and differences between woodland and open surroundings. Spring offers bird sounds, summer greenery and autumn colours in mosses and dwarf shrubs. Specific species are unpromised. Check boardwalks in winter and after rain: ice or high water may require a shorter outing.

Closed footwear with a grippy sole
Forecast-appropriate clothing and rain protection
Water and snacks for the whole outing
Warm-season insect and tick protection
Binoculars for viewing-place observation
