Route description

Alexander Sovetov’s Green Ring invites you to see Moscow as a city of connected gardens, river valleys and wooded parks. This walking variation begins beside Cherkizovo Pond before the city unfolds in large green chapters. Izmaylovo Island recalls a royal estate, Tsaritsyno greets you with the towers of the Figured Bridge, and beside the Yauza the old lime trees of the Garden of the Future accompany the arches of Rostokino Aqueduct. Each outing has its own mood: pause beside water, examine park architecture or simply follow woodland paths. Streets, crossings and residential quarters remain between these places, showing how nature is woven into the capital’s everyday life. Turn the ring into a series of walks and return in different seasons. Passages in individual parks change, so select each day’s section after checking local rules and open entrances.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Choose short individual park outings with children. Do not plan the complete walking variation with an ordinary pet dog: animals are prohibited in Tsaritsyno’s historic park, with a stated exception for guide dogs. The author publishes cycling versions separately; cycling inside Tsaritsyno’s fence is restricted, and some walking connections involve stairs. Choose checked, surfaced sections with a stroller; continuous access around the complete ring is unconfirmed. Reception has not been surveyed along every section.

Nearby

Tsaritsyno’s palaces and exhibitions and the museum programme on Izmaylovo Island require separate ticket and visiting arrangements. Add them to a shorter walking day. The author’s website carries a current map and separate cycling versions; before a new outing check which version includes your selected passages.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Rutrail recommends urban public transport for individual outings. Belokamennaya Moscow Central Circle station, Novogireyevo railway station and Novogireyevo metro are confirmed on the mapped route; select the correct mode, as the shared name refers to separate places. The Garden of the Future is accessible from Botanichesky Sad metro according to its operator. Check exits and timetables for your chosen day stage.
By car
Choose a lawful city drop-off location for the day and arrange vehicle retrieval beforehand. Do not drive along park walking paths. A series of outings is easier with different start and finish locations.
Parking
One dedicated parking facility for the complete ring has not been confirmed. Use lawful urban spaces near your selected daily entrance after checking signs and payment conditions. If the day ends in another district, arrange vehicle retrieval separately.

What to expect

Places
Cherkizovo Pond A pond beside the eastern beginning of the walk, listed by the route author among Green Ring stops. Its banks offer an unhurried place to begin the day.
Izmaylovo Manor The historic manor on Izmaylovo Island is listed by the author as a stop at the former royal estate. Plan exhibition visits separately from walking through the island.
Figured Bridge Bazhenov’s 1776–1778 bridge in Tsaritsyno resembles a small fortress with towers and an entrance arch. It was designed as a ceremonial approach from the ponds.
Garden of the Future A park on the site of Prince Khovansky’s estate beside the Yauza. Old lime avenues and a pond retain an estate atmosphere amid the modern city.
Rostokino Aqueduct The arched structure of the old Mytishchi water supply above the Yauza. Here the Green Ring meets the history of Moscow’s water supply, with the rhythm of stone arches drawing the eye.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 174 м.
SurfaceAsphalt 42%, Dirt 9%, Paving stones 4%, Unknown 37%.
Риски Unpaved woodland paths, stairs, road crossings and temporary restrictions differ between parks. Continuous waymarking is not assured. Use permitted paths between the western and northern sections, checking entrances locally; straight lines across developed areas are not established walking passages. Follow Tsaritsyno’s historic park rules: tents, fires, picnics and cycling outside the permitted area are prohibited. Check protected-area rules before each individual outing.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 2 d 46 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
For walking the complete variation, allow a multi-day plan of 7–10 days, spread over weekends if preferred. Stages of about 15–25 km need 5–8 hours for walking, stops and urban approaches. This is a series of independent day outings; park camping is unnecessary. Days 1–2: eastern parks and Izmaylovo Island. Days 3–4: the southeastern river section and Tsaritsyno. Days 5–6: southern and southwestern woodland parks. Days 7–10: western and northern connections, the Yauza and return towards the eastern section. Choose each boundary according to transport and passages actually open. For a family walk choose a single park instead of attempting a whole large chapter in one day.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Spring after the ground dries, summer and dry early autumn make woodland and urban sections easier to combine. Autumn particularly rewards separate outings as different parks change. In winter choose cleared walking areas: snow does not make the whole circuit a prepared ski trail. After heavy rain check low ground and walking decks; in heat take breaks and replenish drinking water in inhabited sections.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Broken-in shoes for unpaved paths and urban walking.
Drinking water and food for the selected stage.
Rain protection, a sun hat and insect protection.
A map of the day’s section, phone and power bank.
Clothing for waterside wind and the seasonal forecast.
