Route description

Trudny to Orlyonok through Krivaya Valley, Medvezhata and Vityaz is a substantial ski passage through the Olkha Plateau’s inner valleys. From the Trudny side it heads towards Kaimurastuy and the Bolshaya Olkha, then continues through Krivaya towards the Shirokiy and Polovinka basins. Woodland climbs and descents alternate with more open river sections, and a watershed on the survey clearing leads towards Medvezhata. This version’s rock encounters include a separate visit to Vityaz before the final arrival at Orlyonok. The result is a ski journey with two distinct rock settings and several different river valleys. Prepared groups can consider it after confirming access to the park section and present winter conditions.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data Experience of sustained ski outings and controlled woodland descents is necessary. Confirm national-park access and river-crossing conditions beforehand. This is unsuitable as a children’s outing. The bicycle assessment concerns the winter ski version; summer permissions and access with a dog along the entire passage are separately unconfirmed.

Nearby

Zerkala lies at another branch; a separate approach to its rock walls is absent from this version. Starukha, Fortress Rock and Idol also belong to other itineraries. In September 2026, the park authority reported bear-related restrictions on tourist itineraries of the Olkha Plateau and Circum-Baikal railway. As checked on 14 October, specific access to the described winter park section is unconfirmed: check its status and permission with the authority before planning. Current services at old ski bases and huts are separately unknown.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Trudny and Orlyonok Rail Stops appear in official Irkutsk–Slyudyanka suburban services. Orlyonok is confirmed beside the finish; establish the exact platform entrance on the Trudny side and safe approaches beforehand. Choose trains from the Baikal suburban operator’s timetable for your date, allowing a return margin after the forest passage. Historical evening-return references do not replace a current departure.
By car
Exact vehicle access is unconfirmed. Check arrival on the Trudny starting side and a meeting after the finish near Orlyonok separately. The passage connects different sides of the plateau, so arrange a return to the car beforehand; forest roads do not establish permitted driving along the ski itinerary.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Establish a lawful place for the car near your chosen arrival and a return to it before travelling.

What to expect

Places
Vityaz Rock A separate visit to one of the best-known Olkha rock formations. The rock and its mapped viewpoint add a distinct stop to the ski passage; choose a safe winter viewing position according to actual conditions.
Medvezhata Rocks A rock outcrop beside the woodland ski passage after the watershed. Its forms can be viewed from the approach near the base; climbing onto the rocks is not included in this ski plan.
Kaimurastuy Stream A woodland stream encountered early in the passage from Trudny. Its valley shows the transition from plateau slopes towards the Bolshaya Olkha; check river-passage conditions before departure.
Bolshaya Olkha River The river is encountered near the approach to Krivaya Valley and again on the return towards Orlyonok. These encounters link woodland passages with the valley roads; historical bridges and ice are not verified crossings.
Zyryansky to Polovinka Pass A wooded watershed on the survey clearing between river basins. It is a distinct climbing section with a change of direction; an open panoramic viewpoint is not promised.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Wooded passes, long descents and river encounters require reserve energy. Present crossings of the Bolshaya Olkha and beside Kaimurastuy are unconfirmed; frost alone cannot establish safe ice. Visiting Vityaz requires a cautious viewing position away from an icy edge. Part of the passage lies within the mapped Pribaikalsky National Park boundary: agree this specific winter corridor and access with the authority, including current restrictions.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 7 h 55 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Plan a full ski day only after confirming access, river conditions and approaches at both ends. A reliable total duration is unknown: snow, possible trail-breaking and the Vityaz visit change the pace. Assess the Bolshaya Olkha approach, the Krivaya and Polovinka passage, the Medvezhata section and the Vityaz stop separately. Agree when to abandon continuation if delayed, keeping a return margin.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Winter with established snow cover, confirmed access and checked river crossings. Deep fresh snow adds effort; a thaw changes conditions on rivers and rocks. A prepared ski trail and safe viewing access at Vityaz are not guaranteed. Historical clearing reports do not establish conditions in a new season.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Skis and bindings for a sustained forest passage, with a basic repair kit.
A flask, drinking water of your own and food for the day with a reserve.
Warmth and wind protection, with spare dry gloves and socks.
A map of valleys, branches and rail-stop approaches, a phone with reserve power, a light and first aid.
An agreed return and response to delays; an open refuge, equipment hire or drinkable spring along the way is unconfirmed.
