Route description

This walking part of a larger Central Sayan journey begins within the Kizir valley area and heads towards Pikhtovy and the Vodopadny valley below Grandiozny. It then crosses named passes and reaches Lower Kinzelyuk Lake. After the lake excursion, it continues down the Kinzelyuk towards its junction with the Kizir. It is an independent mountain journey through river valleys, pass saddles and a real lake bank. Grandiozny’s ascent is outside it. An extended interval between the Vodopadny valley and the resumed valley approach needs separate development and checking. Develop external arrival and final departure as well. The Tofalaria name does not establish access to the neighbouring federal reserve: its managing institution does not provide tourism visits, so confirm boundaries and any deviations beforehand.
