Route description

The walk to Suburga leaves Arshan for the wooded foothills of the Tunkinskiye Goltsy. Khoymorsky Bodhidharma Temple stands near the beginning, offering a reason to pause before the village streets give way to forest roads. Beyond it, quiet junctions become part of the journey, with the spring as the destination to keep in mind. Crossing the Bugatay gives the outing a distinctive moment. Its channel can be dry, although rain changes the scene. The path then continues towards Suburga Spring, a small source associated with local Buddhist traditions. This is a place to approach quietly and respectfully, allowing time beside the water. The outing ends at the spring. It suits walkers interested in Arshan’s sacred places and its forested western surroundings. Plan the return beforehand: a junction that looks obvious on the way out may deserve another look when heading back.

Nearby

Stupas above Suburga and the old temple remains need separate approaches from the spring; this outing ends before a complete visit to them. Their current condition and the operation of the prayer wheel are unverified. Papiy Arshan, the Virgin Bowl on Bukhota and an ascent up the Bugatay gorge are separate continuations. Untreated spring water is not confirmed safe to drink, and the spring is not a substitute for medical advice.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Buses serve Arshan from Irkutsk and Ulan-Ude, and the resort offers transfers. Confirm current departures, the arrival point and return tickets with the operator. Reaching the western start involves a separate walk from where you arrive. No bus stop at the spring is confirmed; allow for returning to Arshan.
By car
Finish the driving part of the journey in Arshan and walk to the start from an agreed stopping place. A forest road does not establish permission to drive: vehicles in the national park must use public roads. Vehicle access or a pickup at the spring is not confirmed.
Parking
An authorised parking location immediately at this version’s start has not been verified. Arrange parking with your accommodation or use a designated village facility after checking its rules. Keep the temple approach clear and avoid leaving a vehicle at forest junctions.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 78 м.
SurfaceGravel 17%, Unknown 83%.
Риски Pay particular attention to forest junctions and the Bugatay crossing. Do not assume the channel is always dry; turn back if crossing safely is uncertain. Fences near the temple require checking the permitted outward path rather than bypassing closed grounds. Some path connections need clarification locally. Confirm this specific outing with the national park, obtain permission and check restrictions. Keep dogs leashed and establish whether they are allowed at the places visited.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 h 50 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow a daylight outing for reaching the spring and returning to the village. No verified duration for this specific version is established: junctions, the channel and a temple stop affect the pace. Plan the return and remember the outward turns so that you do not take a road towards Tagarkhay. Shorten the outing if delayed, keeping ample time before dark.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose a dry, snow-free day when forest roads are visible and the river crossing can be assessed. Check Bugatay conditions after prolonged rain. Snow, ice and short winter days need a separate assessment; a summer description does not establish winter access. Check national park restrictions for your departure date.
