Route description

This Greater Sayan version unfolds through a sequence of mountain passages and an ascent of Munku-Sardyk. Solnechny and Kozliny Zalyot provide the first identifiable pass references, followed by a change in the journey near Ostry and Sedlo Munku. It is an individual mountain itinerary associated with the author’s summer outing, with several stages beyond a single summit visit. Munku-Sardyk is actually included. After the summit section, Lake Echoi’s basin provides a memorable transition: the route passes beside its western shore before continuing towards Muguvek valley. Lower down, White Irkut and woodland sections gradually lead the journey back towards the road. The succession of saddles, summit, lake and river valleys defines this version. It appeals to travellers interested in the Greater Sayan as a longer mountain journey, with independent stages between its landmarks. An experienced group should plan it after checking connections, present conditions and the permitted border-zone approach. Repeated excursions and separate sections need their own considered sequence.

Nearby

Greater Sayan’s Solnechny differs from the pass of the same name between Bugatay and Tolta. The Zhokhoy mouth and a separate historical starting location do not coincide with this version’s beginning. The name Solaris is not independently confirmed here for another encountered lake. Khubsugul, Mongolian settlements and Dynamo Pass are not included visits. Historical logs, small bridges, camps and a cafe do not guarantee current crossings, overnight permission or services.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Verified public transport directly to the beginning or from the finish is unavailable. Agree delivery and collection using the exact locations of the prepared overall journey. Historical camp and road-side cafe references do not establish current stops or transport services.
By car
The exact driving approach to both end locations and its present condition are not independently confirmed. Walk the mountain sections and leave the vehicle at an agreed road-accessible location in the overall itinerary. Arrange delivery, collection after the exit and return to the car before departure.
Parking
Verified permitted parking for the full outing is unavailable. Ask the chosen road-side location’s owner whether leaving a vehicle is allowed. A historical cafe label near the finish does not establish an operating parking area.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 4898 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Independent high-mountain passages, the ascent, river crossings and route-finding require an experienced, prepared group. Several connections are unconfirmed, and repeated sections cannot automatically become one uninterrupted itinerary. Assess every passage and plan belay requirements, overnight arrangements and weather retreats. Near Ostry and Munku-Sardyk the route approaches the state boundary and sometimes diverges from its mapped position. Agree a permissible approach and documentation with border authorities; a mountain reference does not itself permit entering Mongolia. Separately clarify park permission and current zoning for affected land.

A day-by-day plan for the multi-day outing is not established. The author’s outing is dated 2–13 August, but they do not confirm a present sequence of permitted stages and overnight locations. Complete travel time is unknown because of repeated excursions and unconfirmed connections. Allow reserves for weather, crossings, a verified approach and transport at both ends.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
The author followed this version in summer. Before walking, obtain information about snow and ice on high sections, saddle conditions, wind and river levels. A summer date does not guarantee a dry passage or simple ascent. Spring and winter conditions require another technical and avalanche plan. Check current access and permissions before travelling.
