Route description

This mountain variant links the Sagan-Sair-Daban Pass area, Arlyk-Gol valley and the Samarta side. It was originally published as an approximate direction for a proposed future road, so a complete continuous permitted walking route is currently unconfirmed. Independently check approaches, river connections, slope conditions and Samarta-side access before planning the complete crossing. Where continuation is unverified, choose a separately prepared section with its own return. The direction starts on the Sagan-Sair-Daban side. Its pass plateau opens a crossing between the Sagan-Sair and Arlyk-Gol valleys; neighbouring summit ascents are separate. Descending into the river valley changes the focus from ridges to water, banks and the onward way. The variant then turns towards the Malgaita watershed side and Samarta valley. Distinguish neighbouring crossings carefully: the published northern Malgaita-Daban variant is separate from the selected direction and is not automatically visited. In suitable weather, changing mountain valleys forms the attraction, from the open pass side to river slopes and a lower exit. Arrange the meeting point and departure on the Samarta side in advance. An earlier construction proposal does not promise a present road, waymarking or unrestricted passage.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
To discover neighbouring valleys of the Kitoy Mountains and their mountain connection. Sagan-Sair-Daban, Arlyk-Gol and Samarta form three distinct landmarks: an open beginning, riverside middle and another valley-side finish. The variant suits a group willing to prepare real approaches and passage first, then observe the mountains at its own measured pace.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data For an experienced self-sufficient walking group skilled in navigation and assessing pass and river connections. Suitability throughout depends on an independently confirmed route; the earlier proposed direction alone is insufficient. This is unsuitable for a family walk with children. Dog permission and suitability throughout are unestablished. Mobile reception, assistance and supplied overnight stops are unconfirmed.

Nearby

The northern Malgaita-Daban variant is published as a separate coordinate landmark. It does not coincide with the selected direction; visiting that saddle needs an independent branch and assessment. Neighbouring Malgaita Mountain is also outside the included itinerary. Further descent along Sagan-Sair, crossing Ospin-Daban and reaching the Onot are separate mountain tasks. Geological bases, older cairns and possible valley cabins do not establish operating services. Ilchir and the upper Kitoy side may feature in separately arranged regional transport, but are outside this pass crossing. Kitoy paddling, its canyons and Shumak springs are not included. Mondy and Samarta are sides for organising travel. Confirm delivery, permitted passage, vehicle storage and departure in advance. Earlier expedition programmes do not replace current arrangements or establish completed construction.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Direct public transport to the pass-side start and from the Samarta-side finish is unconfirmed. Regional travel is arranged from the Mondy side, with onward delivery, the Sagan-Sair-Daban approach and departure agreed separately. Earlier expedition transport does not establish present scheduled services. Prepare a meeting point, backup return and the option to use only an independently checked section before setting out.
By car
Arrange permission and check the Samarta-side approach road for the actual vehicle before travelling. Earlier off-road vehicle journeys do not guarantee present access. The pass-side start is unconfirmed as a vehicle location; prepare an independent approach. Do not treat the proposed construction direction as an existing road through the complete mountain crossing.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Agree vehicle storage and a meeting point after the crossing with the receiving party in advance. Mining or service grounds do not establish unrestricted parking. Avoid occupying floodplain, local roads or access needed by working vehicles.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски A complete continuous permitted route is unestablished. The leader must check every required connection and prepare independent return points. Cancel the full crossing or use a separately permitted section with an early finish if a safe connection is unconfirmed. The Sagan-Sair-Daban side includes grassy and rocky slopes, an open plateau and restricted visibility. Choose the bank carefully when descending towards Arlyk-Gol; the earlier direction does not establish bridges or safe fords. Reassess water and slope stability after rain. Avoid confusing neighbouring saddles and the northern Malgaita-Daban variant with this selected direction. Wet watershed ground and diverging old roads complicate navigation. Exposed upper sections are sensitive to wind, thunderstorms and fog. Confirm Samarta-side passage and any working-area restrictions before departure.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 5 h 34 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
The full time for this exact variant is unestablished. Its catalogue one-day classification does not confirm completion with delivery and return within a day. Prepare the pass-side approach, actual Arlyk-Gol connection and Samarta-side finish first. Once passage is confirmed, calculate an independent schedule, water, any overnight places, weather reserve and early exit. Register the mountain journey with EMERCOM and agree check-in messages and confirmation of return.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose walking conditions after present checks of mountain approaches and water. Summer without difficult snow may suit a prepared group, but does not confirm the complete route. Reassess wet crossings, river connections and watershed visibility after rain or in fog. A prepared winter repeat is unverified; snow, ice overflow and avalanche terrain require an independent plan.
