Route description

Celestial Divide links northern Kyrgyzstan with the Alay side of the Pamirs in a substantial self-supported cycling journey. From Bishkek, the way heads for Kegety Pass, then connects the Song-Kol basin with interior mountain valleys. Days vary in character: open pasture gives way to sustained pass climbs, while descents return to settlements and opportunities to replenish supplies. The southern section reaches the Isfayramsy valley and Koy-Jolu Pass, where the approach to Alay becomes especially apparent. The journey ends in Sary-Tash after its southern section. Its appeal lies in the gradual passage between major mountain regions. Some sections require walking with the bicycle; arrange border access, overnight places, water and departure from the finish beforehand.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - Partially With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data This is a self-supported multi-day cycling expedition requiring mountain-road, camping and remote repair experience. Push the bicycle on steep or damaged sections. Children without expedition preparation should skip it; dog rules across all areas are unestablished. A stroller is unsuitable and continuous mobile reception is unconfirmed. Arrange Bishkek arrival and departure from Sary-Tash with the bicycle separately.

Nearby

Uzgen’s architectural complex and Sulaiman-Too require separate agreed visits; being near a city passage does not establish entry. Lake and mountaineering outings around Achyk-Tash need their own authorization and time. Climbing Lenin Peak is outside this cycling journey.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Arrange Bishkek arrival and bicycle transport to the beginning independently. Book departure from Sary-Tash with a local operator: CBT Osh offers Alay transport, but bicycle space and a specific collection time need confirmation. A permanent service from every mountain valley is unestablished.
By car
Support vehicles require separately agreed accessible roads. Lower delivery does not establish passage over every pass or narrow mountain section. Agree collection in Sary-Tash with a local operator; arrange border-area authorization in advance.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. If leaving a vehicle in Bishkek, agree storage for the full expedition. Collection and the transporter’s stopping point in Sary-Tash need independent arrangements.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 20324 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Check snow, erosion, bridges and permitted passage on each mountain section. The creator reported an Isfayramsy bridge destroyed in 2024; establish today’s crossing rather than automatically repeating the old bypass. Push the bicycle on steep damaged roads and consider separately arranged vehicle travel on busy highway portions. Arrange border authorization for Achyk-Tash beforehand. A historical expedition account does not establish current passage everywhere.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 4 d 23 h
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Time for the route | Unestablished With stops | Unestablished This is a multi-day cycling expedition. The creator suggests roughly 15–25 days, while the actual schedule depends on passes, road conditions and overnight places. A day-by-day plan is not established. Prepare your own stages, resupply points and weather reserve before travel.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
The creator recommends July to mid-September for the high-mountain ride. Snow, cold and thunderstorms remain possible on summer passes, while lower southern valleys can be hot. Check each high crossing independently of the Bishkek or Osh forecast.
