Route description

Atala-Tektyu is a named crossing connecting mountain sides in the Kara-Kulja district. The walk passes the saddle and continues towards Sary-Bee, Terek-Suu and the Tar River. Its appeal is the gradual return from pass country to settled valleys: particular villages appear after the mountain section, where one stage ends and the next can be arranged beforehand. Choose this trek for an independent crossing and a chance to learn the area through its real place names. The author of a long walk across Kyrgyzstan mentioned Atala-Tektyu among older mountain passages found on maps. That gives the journey context, rather than a guarantee of today’s path; check both sides before departure.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The full journey needs independent trekking experience and an agreed exit. Dog permission, bicycle passage and mobile coverage have not been checked; a familiar destination settlement does not establish scheduled services to both ends.

Nearby

A separate continuation from Terek-Suu can enter the Buyga valley. It is another river stage with its own finish, rather than a guaranteed exit after the pass. Confirm water, shelter and transport with a local host before combining walks.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
No scheduled service directly to the precise start and finish has been confirmed. Arrange drop-off and collection with a local host. If arriving on foot from a neighbouring section, include the approach, overnight needs and room for a changed plan.
By car
The endpoints are on different approaches, so one car at the start does not settle the logistics. Agree actual drop-off and meeting places with a driver beforehand. Check local roads and access after rain or snow immediately before travelling.
Parking
No dedicated parking place at the precise start has been established. Arrange storage with a household or hosting camp and keep village and pasture access roads clear.

What to expect

Places
Atala-Tektyu Pass This particular named saddle lies on the crossing towards the settled valleys of Kara-Kulja. The original expedition account mentions this older mountain passage.
Tar River The crossing finishes by the Tar valley around Terek-Suu. A stop at this particular river section separates the mountain stage from a following valley day.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 1485 м.
SurfaceArtificial surface 28%, Unknown 72%.
Риски Check the entire passage and a safe finish on the far side. Delay mountain sections in fog or thunderstorms; strong flow or unstable banks may require a new plan. Watch for vehicles on roads and livestock and dogs near pastures. Treat drinking water and do not make overnight arrangements dependent on an invitation from strangers.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 10 h 20 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Plan | A multi-day walking journey As a preliminary allowance, reserve 2–3 walking days with stops and overnight arrangements, plus weather and logistical reserve. This is an editorial estimate for this itinerary rather than an organiser’s schedule. Calculate initial access and final collection separately.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
July and August are preferable for a prepared group after crossings and roads have been checked locally. Cold, snow and sudden weather changes remain possible on mountain sections in summer. For September, confirm shelter and exits beforehand and allow for early snow and shorter daylight.
