Route description

Artala leads from the Tengizbay valley towards Chong-Kochkorchu and the Koksu side. Beyond the saddle, a sustained descent gradually introduces the southern valley, following its water as mountain slopes give room to the river gorge. A first-hand account remembers Chong-Kochkorchu for rocky constrictions and the seasonal life of herding households. Reach the pass with time and energy in reserve, allowing an unhurried descent. Local people also call Artala Aktash, a name to clarify with your guide beforehand. The combination of saddle and valley makes this a distinctive conclusion to the high mountain part of a trek.
