Route description

The introduction to Ingushetia’s towers begins around Furtoug. Water drops from the cliff at the Mendeleev waterfall before the road continues towards Dzheyrakh and the Tsurov tower above the Armkhi. As you climb towards Tsey-Loam, the setting of old settlements becomes clearer: buildings occupy slopes and sheltered locations, while towers remain conspicuous mountain landmarks. This extended variation links its western beginning with the pass, the surroundings of Egikal and a further continuation towards the plain near Ekazhevo. Pause in Egikal to distinguish domestic and defensive buildings, remaining outside unsafe or closed interiors. Build the journey from manageable stages arranged beforehand: lengthy road connections need attention to traffic, while cultural stops deserve time and respect.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The full walk needs successive walking days and a transfer to the start. Choose separate short visits for children. Dog access, complete cycling passage and mobile coverage are unconfirmed. Climbs, verges and lengthy transitions are unsuitable for strollers.

Nearby

Table Mountain, a Tsey-Loam ascent and the Tkhaba-Yerdy temple require independent approaches and condition checks. Do not append them to a long road stage without a separate plan. Ask custodians and residents about monument visiting rules.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Current regular transport to the precise start and a suitable service from the finish are unconfirmed. Arrange transfers to agreed permitted locations in advance. Include any separate approach to a transport stop explicitly in the day’s plan.
By car
Arrange delivery to an accessible road location for each selected stage. Check the pass road after rain or snow and do not drive onto the walking approach to the waterfall. Collection near the plain needs a separate arrangement from the initial drop-off.
Parking
A dedicated parking facility at the precise start is not confirmed. Check local permission, signs and conditions before leaving a car. Do not obstruct narrow mountain roads or approaches to monuments.

What to expect

Places
Furtoug Waterfall The Galgai-choch cascade is also known as Mendeleev Waterfall after the scientist’s expedition visit. Fine streams descend beside the main flow.
Tsurov Family Fighting Tower This seventeenth-century tower stands on a ledge above the Armkhi River and has been cared for by family descendants. Ask the owners about visiting conditions.
Tsey-Loam Pass The pass road reaches meadow slopes above the Terek valley. Pause away from traffic; climbing the mountain of the same name is a separate undertaking.
Egikal Tower Complex This historic settlement combines fighting towers, domestic buildings and tombs. Examine its architecture from outside without entering restricted interiors.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 5214 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Extended road sections require care around vehicles, narrow verges and poor visibility. Wet stones near the waterfall are slippery; avoid cliff edges. Fog, wind and rapid cooling affect Tsey-Loam. Do not climb towers or enter ruins without permission. Check protected-area rules and border permit requirements for your chosen itinerary beforehand, and carry identification.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 d 22 h
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow a multiday walking plan of 6–8 days for roughly 127.5 km, generally 15–22 km per day. Day 1: Furtoug and the waterfall. Day 2: Dzheyrakh and the Tsurov tower. Days 3–4: Tsey-Loam pass section and the valley towards Egikal, allowing time to visit. Days 5–7: remaining road stages towards the plain near Ekazhevo. Day 8: weather and stage-adjustment contingency. This is an editorial plan for the extended variation. Accommodation and precise overnight boundaries are unconfirmed: arrange them beforehand or divide the journey into separate day outings with transfers.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose settled, snow-free summer or early-autumn days for the full walk. Clear visibility and warm clothing matter at the exposed pass. Check roads and the waterfall approach after heavy rain. The author’s winter journey does not establish that independent winter walking is safe.
