Route description

Walking gives mountain Ingushetia a continuity that separate photographs cannot capture. From the Ezmi area, the journey heads east past Lyalakh and Kyazi towards Egikal and the Targim basin. Historic buildings occupy varied settings: open terraces, grassy slopes and ledges above valleys. Their positions help explain the choices made by their builders. Slow down around Egikal, Khamkhi and Targim to examine the architecture from outside, leaving tombs and closed interiors undisturbed. The journey continues towards eastern tower complexes and the Guli border-post area. Check permitted passage and current conditions with the Caucasian Trail team before travelling, and arrange your finish outside service grounds. The walk offers several unhurried days with mountain Ingushetia.

Targim Tower Complex A tower settlement on the high bank of the Assa, whose position helps explain its defensive setting and connection with neighbouring complexes.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The journey requires confident mountain walking and several days of independent planning. Wet ground and fog slow progress; avoid stream crossings with unsafe water levels. Do not climb ruins or enter tombs. Check border and protected-area conditions for the actual direction beforehand, carry original identification and register the group with rescuers. Published rules for the current stage do not cover arbitrary side trips.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 22 h 57 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
For roughly 78 km, allow a multiday plan of 7 days, including tower visits and weather margin. Days 1–2: western approach from Ezmi towards Lyalakh and Kyazi. Days 3–4: intermediate complexes, Egikal and Khamkhi. Day 5: Targim section. Days 6–7: eastern continuation and agreed finish near Guli. This is an editorial division of the west-to-east variation; the organiser publishes a seven-day stage in the opposite direction. Confirm actual overnight locations, water, camping permission and alternative exits separately. Border-post service grounds are not a sightseeing stop.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
The Caucasian Trail team recommends July–September for mountain Ingushetia. Within that period choose settled weather and follow reports about passage conditions. Shorten outings in fog and check streams and slopes after heavy rain. Outside the summer window, snow and limited daylight require separate preparation and agreement.
