Route description

Starting in Vladikavkaz makes this a substantial transition from the city towards mountain Ingushetia. Near Dzheyrakh, attention shifts to the Armkhi valley and stone buildings on its ledges. The Tsurov tower offers a chance to observe a monument preserved through family care before continuing towards Beini. Tsey-Loam Pass provides the culmination. Meadow slopes and the opening valley reveal the setting of the Dzheyrakh district among Caucasian ridges. Choose clear weather and a safe place to pause, leaving a mountain ascent for another journey. Divide the long city approach into agreed day stages to preserve energy for the pass section.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The start is urban, but collection from the pass needs arranging beforehand. Children are better suited to a separate short monument visit. Full dog access, safe cycling passage and mobile coverage are unconfirmed. Mountain verges and the pass climb are unsuitable for strollers.

Nearby

Other tower complexes can form separate visits with checked approaches; avoid silently extending an already long walking day. Climbing the summit of Tsey-Loam is a separate mountaineering undertaking requiring different skills and equipment.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Suitable current city transport to the precise start and regular transport from the pass finish are unconfirmed. Plan your approach to the beginning and book return collection beforehand. Do not rely on a chance lift after a late finish.
By car
For shorter outings, arrange a drop-off on an accessible road and separate collection. Check the Tsey-Loam road after precipitation. Leave vehicles only where permitted and do not attempt an unverified vehicle approach to the tower.
Parking
A dedicated parking facility for the full variation is not confirmed. Check permission, local signs and charges before leaving a vehicle. Keep clear of narrow pass-road verges and arrange your return to the car separately.

What to expect

Places
Furtoug Waterfall The waterfall on the Galgai-choch stream is associated with Dmitri Mendeleev’s visit. It offers a distinct natural stop before continuing towards Dzheyrakh.
Tsurov Family Fighting Tower This seventeenth-century tower stands on a ledge above the Armkhi River and has been cared for by family descendants. Ask the owners about visiting conditions.
Tsey-Loam Pass The pass road reaches meadow slopes above the Terek valley. Pause away from traffic; climbing the mountain of the same name is a separate undertaking.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 2689 м.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The extended approach includes roadside walking; narrow verges and bends demand attention. The mountain section adds climbing effort, fog, wind and possible ice. In poor visibility shorten the outing to a safe road section. Ask the owners before entering the tower. The pass does not establish a suitable starting point for an independent mountain ascent. Check visiting rules and required documents beforehand.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 d 59 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow a multiday walking plan of 3–4 days for all sections, around 69.8 km. Day 1: leave Vladikavkaz towards the Dzheyrakh approach. Day 2: Armkhi valley and the Tsurov tower. Day 3: continue through the Beini area to Tsey-Loam Pass. Day 4: weather contingency or a shorter final stage. Set day boundaries around permitted roads, fitness and prearranged accommodation. Overnight facilities are unconfirmed. A separate pass outing needs its own transfer; the entire transition is not a short city excursion.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Prefer dry, snow-free weather in summer or early autumn. Clear visibility matters at Tsey-Loam: fog removes the outlook and increases roadside hazards. The original January publication is not a winter recommendation; snow and ice require different preparation.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Broken-in footwear with stable grip.
Water and food for each day stage.
Rain protection, warm clothing and sun protection.
