Route description

The selected direction begins beside Upper Chuchkhur Waterfall and gradually returns to Dombai. Examine the upper cascade first, then meet the lower one on the woodland descent: the two distinct water features make up the Chuchkhur pair. After the steep branch, the path enters Dombai-Ulgen valley and continues through the Russian Meadow area towards the village. This direction starts at the waterfalls, so reaching the upper start requires an independent approach. Current visiting arrangements need particular attention: the park’s October notice limits general access to Russian Meadow. The upper cascades lie in the border zone; arrange a border permit beforehand and independently confirm permission to continue before planning the complete mountain day.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
The two cascades offer a comparison of the same mountain stream before the wooded slope gives way to the valley. Dombai provides a clear finish, but permission to reach the upper start must be established in advance.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - With caution With a dog - No By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - Patchy The start is already beside the upper waterfall and requires a separate permitted approach. Children need experience on steep woodland descents and adult supervision. Dogs are prohibited by the park; stony ground and slopes are unsuitable for a stroller. An authorized interior cycling route is unconfirmed, and reception at the farther cascades is not guaranteed.

Nearby

Ptysh Waterfall uses another valley branch. The park states there is no direct path between the two waterfall directions: return to the junction to visit both. Russian Meadow is a separate lower destination and the current general access limit.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The park names regional arrival through Mineral Waters Airport (MRV) followed by a transfer or bus journey to Dombai. Check current departures separately. Public transport to the upper cascade is unconfirmed; an independent mountain approach is needed first.
By car
The park describes the lower Dombai road side and the Dombai-Ulgen checkpoint approach from the A 155. End the vehicle journey before the mountain walking section. Driving to Upper Chuchkhur Waterfall is unconfirmed.
Parking
Verified current parking information for the selected upper descent is unavailable. Arrange vehicle storage on the lower side before travelling. Parking at the upper waterfall is unconfirmed; the start should not be treated as a roadside drop-off point.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски The woodland descent from the cascades is steep; wet stones, roots and crossings require care. Keep back from waterfall edges. Arrange the border permit independently beforehand because the park currently cannot issue one. The document itself does not replace confirmation that the selected upper continuation is permitted and safe.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 2–3 h descending
With stops | 3–4 h This editorial allowance covers the selected descent from Upper Chuchkhur via the lower cascade and valley approach to Dombai. The uphill journey to the start is excluded; a complete outward-and-return outing needs a separate longer day. General access is currently limited to Russian Meadow, so use the upper descent plan only after continuation is permitted and documents are arranged in advance.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Ordinary descending requires snow-free ground and a dry, settled forecast. There is no fixed opening calendar; the park inspects paths before access. Heavy rain, early ice and lingering snow substantially alter the upper woodland section. Current status matters more than an older summer opening notice.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Grippy mountain footwear and familiar descending poles.
Water, food, rain protection and a warm layer for the complete day, including the upper approach.
A headlamp, map of the separate ascent and required documents after access is confirmed.
