Route description

Devil’s Mill is the narrow place where the Amanauz river enters a confined rocky canyon. The approach from Dombai follows the forest gorge path and ends beside this particular river feature. The destination lies among woodland and rock walls rather than at a distant pass; seasonal water changes the character of the flow. Examine the canyon from the permitted path without descending to wet edges. Current visiting arrangements matter: the park’s October notice limits general access to Amanauz waterfall, while Devil’s Mill lies in the border zone. The complete approach is described for planning after independently confirmed access and an advance border permit; free passage today is not promised.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
When access is permitted, the short forest approach focuses attention on the unusual Amanauz constriction and water moving between its walls. This river landscape does not require continuing to the farther waterfalls.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - With caution With a dog - No By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - Patchy Arrange the regional arrival, current timetable and documents before travelling. Children require permitted access, safe forest surfaces and close supervision beside the canyon. The park prohibits domestic animals. The forest path is unsuitable for a stroller and cycling permission is unconfirmed. Do not depend on continuous reception in the gorge.

Nearby

Sufrudzhin waterfalls lie farther up the gorge and are excluded from this approach. Lower Amanauz waterfall is the separate access limit currently named by the park. Dombai-Ulgen and Russian Meadow lie in another valley and need an independent plan.

Getting there

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Keep away from wet canyon edges and stay inside permitted barriers. Forest roots and stones become slippery after rain. At the check date, the complete selected passage requires separate access confirmation: arrange the border permit independently in advance because the park currently cannot issue one. Check permit arrangements and the current route status separately.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 1.5–2.5 h outward and return
With stops | 2.5–3.5 h This editorial allowance covers the direct forest approach from Dombai and return along the same path, only after complete permitted access is confirmed. The selected version ends at Devil’s Mill, not Sufrudzhin waterfalls. Under the current Amanauz-waterfall limit, the complete selected outing is not treated as available. Document arrangements and entrance waiting are outside the walking allowance.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
An ordinary approach requires snow-free conditions and a settled forecast, but a season alone does not reopen the path. The park inspects safety before opening and has no fixed opening calendar. Rain and winter conditions demand particular caution at the canyon; check restrictions before travelling.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
