Route description

This version spends longer in the Amanauz forest approach: intermediate sections are followed with returns before the outing finishes at the river canyon of Devil’s Mill. The principal natural feature remains the same, with water compressed between rock walls in a narrow channel. The additional forest passages do not mean visiting new distant waterfalls, so this day requires an agreed plan and sufficient stamina. Examine the canyon from the permitted path. Complete access cannot currently be treated as unrestricted: the park’s October notice leaves the general limit at Amanauz waterfall, while Devil’s Mill requires an independently arranged border permit and separate confirmation of the continuation.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - With caution With a dog - No By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - Patchy This version includes additional returns within the forest approach, so children need more stamina than for the direct walk. Confirm destination access separately. The park prohibits domestic animals; the forest passage is unsuitable for a stroller and an authorized cycling direction is unconfirmed. Gorge reception is not guaranteed.

Nearby

The direct Dombai approach to the same canyon is a different, shorter version. Sufrudzhin waterfalls lie farther away and are excluded here. An independent outing into Dombai-Ulgen has its own Russian Meadow limit and continuation requirements.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The park describes regional arrival in Dombai after Mineral Waters Airport (MRV) and other lower transport points. Check current departures and the return journey separately. Continue on foot from the village; services to the forest returns or final canyon are unconfirmed.
By car
The officially described lower Amanauz approach uses Alanskaya Street to the barrier and then continues on foot. Confirm the vehicle drop-off point beforehand. The selected forest sections do not establish an authorized vehicle bypass.
Parking
Verified current parking information for this longer outing is unavailable. Arrange full-day vehicle storage on the village side. Parking in the forest or beside the final canyon is unconfirmed.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceDirt 60%, Gravel 30%, Fine gravel 1%.
Риски The retained approach returns require a clear walking and return plan rather than replacing park directions. River edges, wet roots and stones become more hazardous after rain. Familiarity with the terrain does not authorize a closed continuation: arrange the border permit independently and confirm the safe permitted passage separately.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 3–4 h including return to Dombai
With stops | 4–5 h This editorial allowance retains the selected approach’s additional returns, its finish at Devil’s Mill and a separate descent back to Dombai. It is longer than a direct outing to the same feature. Use the plan only after one permitted complete passage is confirmed; the October general access limit at Amanauz waterfall does not establish that this full version is currently open.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose a dry, snow-free day with sufficient daylight for the forest returns. Opening depends on the park’s safety inspection, rather than a fixed seasonal date. Ice, heavy rain or poor visibility do not establish an ordinary complete outing as available.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Comfortable mountain footwear and familiar poles.
Water and food with a reserve for the repeated forest sections.
Rain protection, a warm layer, headlamp, a map of the agreed passage and required documents.
