Route description

Two independent approaches converge on Dargavs. The eastern one begins near Ezmi, climbs towards Saniba Pass and reaches the stone tombs of the Dargavs necropolis. Changing valleys shape the experience: the grassy pass gives a sense of their setting, while the old hillside buildings deserve an unhurried visit. The western approach belongs to a longer journey across mountain Ossetia. It passes the Kamunta area, reaches the Ardon valley and continues towards Dargavs from the other side. Choose and prepare these directions independently. Confirm permission and conditions for each mountain section before departure; a complete, currently waymarked through-route is unconfirmed here. With access agreed, Dargavs becomes a meaningful conclusion to a mountain journey, with time left for the history of the place.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No data By bike - No data With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The two directions require independent transfers, multiday preparation and checks of permitted passage. Children are better suited to a separate Dargavs visit. Dog access and uninterrupted cycling passage are unconfirmed. Mountain paths and passes are unsuitable for strollers; no reliable coverage survey is available.

Nearby

Karmadon memorials, Midagrabin waterfalls and additional Kurtat gorge visits need their own approaches and access checks. Do not append them automatically to the multiday plan. Dargavs can also form a separate cultural visit under current museum rules.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Regular transport to both precise starts and a suitable service after finishing are unconfirmed. Arrange delivery and collection for your chosen direction. The transfer between western and eastern beginnings needs its own organisation.
By car
Choose one approach and agree an accessible drop-off beforehand. Check roads and mountain access locally, especially after rain or snow. Delivery to a road location does not replace walking approaches to remote parts. Arrange collection after Dargavs separately.
Parking
Dedicated parking facilities at both precise starts are not confirmed. Ask where a vehicle may be left during your selected journey. Keep narrow verges, village entrances and service access clear.

What to expect

Places
Saniba Pass The pass separates the Genaldon and Suardon valleys. Its grassy setting reveals the transition between neighbouring gorges.
Dargavs Necropolis This historic collection of stone tombs occupies a mountain slope. View the buildings from outside under current museum rules.
Ardon River The main river of the Alagir gorge links mountain side valleys and marks a major transition on the western approach.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски First confirm the permitted line, border documents and protected-area arrangements for every selected section. An old Caucasian Trail name does not establish current waymarking or passage. Pass fog, loose slopes, rockfall and rising stream water are hazards; check crossings locally after storms. The two beginnings are not joined here by a ready walking connection. Observe museum rules in Dargavs without entering tombs or touching burial structures.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 1 d 23 h
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
For both independent approaches, approximately 161 km, allow a multiday trip of 12–15 days with a separate transfer between beginnings. Days 1–2: eastern approach from Ezmi through the Saniba Pass area to Dargavs. Day 3: rest, visits and arranged transfer to the western start. Days 4–6: initial western mountain stages towards Kamunta. Days 7–9: continuation towards the Ardon valley. Days 10–12: remaining western approach to Dargavs. Days 13–15: weather reserve, shorter extra stages and logistics changes. The eastern part is approximately 30 km and the western approximately 131 km. A gap of approximately 70.4 km separates them and is not a walking connection. This conditional editorial plan requires confirmed overnight boundaries, safe crossings and access. You can choose one direction and recalculate its timing.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Prefer settled, snow-free summer or early-autumn conditions for the mountain sections, with access confirmed. Passes need clear visibility and no fresh snow. Check slopes and streams after heavy rain and postpone crossings if weather deteriorates. The comfortable season for a vehicle visit to Dargavs does not establish suitable conditions on every higher western section.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода

Food and water planned around independent stages and verified replenishment.
Rain protection, warm layers and sun protection.
A permitted-route map, compass, independent communication plan and emergency supplies.
Overnight equipment appropriate to the agreed plan, identification and required permissions.
