Route description

Victoria remains below as the Viștea valley approach changes from its lower road section into mountain walking. Above the forest, a broad basin opens and Portița Viștei becomes the clear objective beside the principal ridge. Look back before the final ascent to appreciate how the lower valley has gradually given way to an open mountain setting. The pass is a complete destination in itself. Viștea Mare and Moldoveanu lie farther on and are outside this variant; avoid adding them to a tiring day without another plan. Decide how to allocate the valley approach, upper ascent and return or agreed exit on another side. Mapped shelters do not replace confirmed accommodation and water reserves.

Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 1813 м.
SurfaceAsphalt 27%, Dirt 26%, Gravel 10%, Unknown 38%.
Риски The final pass ascent is especially steep and requires energy in reserve. Wind, mist and thunder on the exposed side can make continuation unwise. Choose a safe return beforehand. Winter requires specific mountain skills and snow assessment beyond warm clothing.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 8 h 7 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow several trekking days for a complete programme with approach, an overnight stay and return or agreed continuation. Allocation depends on confirmed accommodation and the exit side selected. The author ascent estimate excludes return, transport waiting and separate summits.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Use snow-free conditions and a stable forecast for an ordinary walking plan. Check the upper basin and pass shortly before departure. Winter needs a separately prepared mountain ascent; limited daylight is unsuitable for improvised exits.
