Route description

Lisa River establishes the lower side of this long mountain approach. Begin by observing the valley and settling into the climb, then watch ordinary roadside walking give way to forest turns and an open mountain direction. The change between the inhabited lower valley and upper Făgăraș slopes unfolds gradually rather than all at once. The upper passage approaches the Cheia Bândei area and the principal-ridge side without promising every nearby summit. The author describes a hard-to-identify forest turn near Plaiul Smidei, making prior study essential. Plan several trekking days, confirmed accommodation and an exit. Cațaveiu shelter and upper mountain names do not replace checks of supplies and weather.
