Route description

Lower Kościeliska introduces the Tatras through limestone and old meadows. Beside the road in Kiry stands Jarcowa Skałka, with nummulites preserved in its rock as traces of an ancient sea. The path then passes through Kantak’s rock gate to Wyżnia Kira Miętusia and Cudakowa Polana. On the return, revisit what caught your attention: the limestone’s texture, the narrowing valley or a meadow opening between the slopes. An underground education centre at the entrance can be visited with a separate booking.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
In good conditions, the lower section suits a relaxed family walk on a reinforced road. Assess a large-wheel stroller against the current stony surface; accessibility inside the education centre does not guarantee every valley section is accessible. Ordinary TPN rules do not permit dogs or cycling here. Mobile coverage is unconfirmed.

Nearby

Ornak, Smreczyński Staw and Wąwóz Kraków lie farther along the valley and are outside this walk to Cudakowa Polana. Visiting them needs a new time plan and checks on cave and mountain conditions.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car

By car
Drive to Kiry at the entrance to Kościeliska valley. Follow the green walking markers inside the national park; the tourist road is not unrestricted vehicle access.
Parking
TPN confirms a paid car park at Dolina Kościeliska–Kiry. Check payment and availability before arrival. The underground education centre has no separate visitor car park; an exhibition ticket does not replace parking payment.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 14 м.
SurfaceGravel 100%.
Риски The reinforced road remains stony and slippery after rain. Do not climb the rocks to inspect fossils or collect specimens. Caves and upper trails have different requirements and should not be added casually to this lower-valley outing. From March to November, finish before dusk.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 52 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow roughly one and a half to two hours from Kiry to Cudakowa Polana and back with short pauses. Add about an hour for the underground centre exhibition and book a visit time. Published timings for the full Ornak and Smreczyński Staw outing do not apply to this shorter version.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose a dry, snow-free day for the lower valley. In spring and autumn, check for ice, mud and local works. Flowers and grazing vary by season and are not guaranteed on any particular day.
