Route description

At Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy, the mountain reflections lie close beside the path. This shore walk starts near the northern part of the lake and continues to the junction beneath Granaty, showing the cirque from changing angles. Rocky slopes, water and a narrow shoreline form a distinct High Tatra scene. Pause beside the permitted path to watch ripples and cloud shadows alter the reflections. Reaching this lakeside walk first requires an ascent from the valley through Murowaniec.

Route suitability

Buses serve Kuźnice, followed by a substantial walking ascent. Children need mountain-walking experience and enough stamina for the return. The shore path is outside TPN’s permitted cycling directions, and dogs are prohibited. Reliable mobile coverage is unconfirmed.

Nearby

Murowaniec lies on the lower walking approach, outside this shore section. Zmarzły Staw, Granaty and Kościelec need separate ascents; a summit seen from the lake is not a summit visited. Choose a specific permitted trail and a new return plan before extending the outing.

Getting there

Show on map
Without a car
The published municipal table includes Kuźnice. Walk from there through Murowaniec, then follow the blue trail to Czarny Staw. A bus directly to the lake is unconfirmed; include the lower approach and check your return departure.
By car
A visitor vehicle approach directly to the lakeshore is unconfirmed. Arrange your lower start in Zakopane and use the permitted walking approach through Murowaniec. The hut’s service road is not unrestricted visitor vehicle access.
Parking
A visitor car park directly at Czarny Staw is unconfirmed. Choose parking for the lower part of your journey after checking the relevant operator’s current rules; the shore still requires an ascent on foot.

Difficult sections and safety

Elevation gain
Lakeside stones can be slippery, and leaving the path damages the protected shore. Swimming and unauthorised camping are prohibited. At review, TPN reports snow and ice on higher neighbouring routes: continuing towards Granaty requires a separate assessment, equipment and experience. Finish before dusk.

How much time to allow

Allow around 25–40 minutes one way for the shore section, then approximately another hour for returning and pauses. Starting from Kuźnice through Murowaniec calls for a full day, roughly six to eight hours including approaches. This editorial estimate excludes an ascent of Granaty.

Best time to go

Dry, snow-free weather in summer or early autumn offers the clearest conditions. Spring snow can remain around the mountain slopes long after Zakopane has thawed. In autumn, use the current TPN bulletin: an October date does not guarantee summer trail conditions.

What to bring

Mountain footwear with a grippy sole.
Water and food for the entire valley outing.
Waterproof clothing, warm layer and sun protection.
Offline map, torch and charged phone.
