Route description

This expanded mountain crossing begins in Trenta with the Soča River and the valley’s historic ironworks. It then climbs past memorials to Julius Kugy and Andrej Komac Mota towards the road pass of Vršič. Beyond the pass, Vratca and Slatnica connect the onward mountain paths before the descent towards Tamar Lodge. Returns over individual connections lengthen the usual crossing between valleys. Slemenova Špica’s summit remains a separate outing. The finish is at a mountain lodge, with the road exit still to follow.

Nearby

Trenta’s museum, the Church of Our Lady of Loreto and Juliana Botanical Garden require separate lower-valley approaches. Slemenova Špica’s summit, waterfalls near Tamar and neighbouring mountain ascents are beyond the selected crossing. Planica’s sporting facilities belong to an additional visit after leaving the lodge.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Summer services between Kranjska Gora and Bovec serve Trenta, but the published 2026 calendar ends in September. Check October arrival or prearrange a transfer. From Tamar, walk separately to Planica before using suitable road transport. There is no direct departure from the doors of the finishing mountain lodge.
By car
Reach the road departure in Trenta through the Soča Valley. The route finishes in another mountain area, requiring a separate return arrangement. Tamar Lodge is beyond vehicle access; its operator identifies the independent walking exit to Planica. Check current road restrictions when travelling through Vršič.
Parking
Parking at the Trenta departure is unconfirmed. For the separate exit from Tamar, the operator identifies paid Planica parking. The published passenger-car tariff is EUR4 for a daytime stay or EUR9 with overnight parking; events have special arrangements. Parking in Planica does not automatically provide arrival at the first Trenta section.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 1440 м.
SurfaceDirt 28%, Asphalt 13%, Gravel 11%, Unknown 41%.
Риски The sustained ascent, rocky mountain connections and descent towards Tamar demand confident walking and sufficient energy. A helmet is useful on steeper rocky ground; confirm path conditions before departure. Watch road traffic at the pass crossing. The seasonal stream may be dry and is not a confirmed drinking-water source. Keep dogs on a lead and arrange hut accommodation rather than pitching a tent outside permitted places.

A day-by-day plan is not established. Total timing for this expanded multiday version is also unconfirmed; usual Trenta–Tamar timings do not apply. Choose daily stages and rest places after checking operating huts and your own pace. The current PZS card lists Tamar as open daily from8a.m. to8p.m., with overnight availability requiring confirmation. Add the Planica exit separately.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Prefer a snow-free period with settled weather and dry mountain paths. The riverside section can remain appealing after the upper saddles have become icy, so assess the entire crossing. Autumn brings short days and the end of seasonal buses. Winter requires a different mountain programme.
