Route description

The start is at Stempeljoch, already high in the mountains. The mountain-side path leads towards the upper junctions near Lafatscher Joch, after which the selected sequence descends into Halltal to the former monastery site of St Magdalena. Pause outside the surviving chapel to consider the valley’s salt-mining past. A new ascent then reaches Bettelwurfhütte, followed by an upper traverse back towards the Lafatscher Joch area. Lower approaches repeat, and the finish lies on the eastern valley path before the final exit to transport. This version needs an agreed sequence of crossings and overnight arrangements: the simple daily plan of the neighbouring high-level stage does not describe it. The Small and Great Bettelwurf summits require separate branches. The interest here lies in mountain traverses, the hut exterior and a repeated encounter with the historic wooded valley.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - No By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data A bus is confirmed on the lower valley side, but the upper start requires a separate mountain approach. Repeated ascents, stony paths and possible snow patches require experience; this is unsuitable for an ordinary outing with children or a dog. Cycling is prohibited on part of the walking paths. Strollers are unsuitable and continuous reception is unconfirmed.

Nearby

The Small and Great Bettelwurf summits require separate mountain outings. Pfeishütte lies on a different approach to Stempeljoch, and Halleranger beyond Lafatscher Joch’s northern side. Agree entry to St Magdalena Chapel and a visit to the neighbouring restaurant separately.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The nature park and hut owner confirm bus 502 to Eichat, Bettelwurfsiedlung. This serves the lower Halltal side. Stempeljoch requires a separate permitted mountain approach; arrange the final descent from the lower finish and the return service in advance.
By car
Arrange vehicle arrival on the Eichat side of Absam. The Halltal road is closed to ordinary traffic. A taxi or shuttle requires separate agreement; a published mention of such services does not guarantee an October departure or replace the ascent to Stempeljoch.
Parking
Halltal entrance parking is confirmed by the nature park and Bettelwurfhütte owner. This is external lower parking before a separate mountain approach. Confirm current vehicle-storage terms and the return arrangement before departure.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 1567 м.
SurfaceDirt 22%, Gravel 15%, Dirt / grass 3%, Unknown 56%.
Риски The upper corridor includes the demanding Wilde-Bande-Steig: stones, steep slopes and persistent snow patches require sure footing. Repeated descents and ascents add fatigue. Change the plan beforehand for ice, fresh snow or a closed passage; an improvised scree bypass is dangerous. Check hut service and path safety separately. The former Herrenhäuser buildings are closed to public visits.

Time for the route | Unestablished With stops | Unestablished This is a multi-day version with repeated valley branches; complete duration is unconfirmed. A day-by-day plan is not established. The ordinary Pfeishütte–Bettelwurfhütte stage follows a different sequence. Agree accommodation and supplies separately: Bettelwurfhütte’s announced summer season ended on October 4, 2026; there is no ordinary winter room, and the emergency room is announced available from October 13.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
The upper traverses need settled snow-free conditions. In autumn, check ice, early snow, shorter daylight and current warnings. On October 12 the announced summer hut season has ended; the emergency room is not booked accommodation. An accessible lower road does not establish conditions on the upper slopes.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Mountain boots, poles and suitable traction aids for confirmed conditions.
Water and food for all agreed crossings, independently of hut service.
Warm clothing, wind and rain protection, a headlamp, first aid and a map of the lower junctions.
A charged phone and accommodation arranged beforehand.
