Route description

From the signpost beside Tschingelhorn, the path descends to a woodland junction above the rear Lauterbrunnen valley. An old mountain inn stands nearby at the beginning, but this outing is about descending: the open slope gradually gives way to trees, and the footpath requires attention and readiness for steep ground. It suits walkers who have already reached the upper valley and chosen their onward return. The lower junction completes only this mountain segment; continue separately towards Stechelberg. The descent is intended for an experienced walker who moves calmly on mountain ground and can abandon the plan when wet soil or early ice makes it unsuitable. Check any meal at Tschingelhorn beforehand: its 2026 season has ended.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - With caution By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The high start requires a separate mountain approach. This demanding descent is unsuitable for an ordinary children’s outing, bicycle or stroller. A dog needs reliable mountain-path ability and must stay on a lead. Mobile reception is unconfirmed.

Nearby

The Berggasthaus Tschingelhorn building needs a separate short approach from the signpost; arrange entry, meals or accommodation with its owner. Trachsellauenen belongs to another returning option. Oberhornsee and Obersteinberg are independent mountain continuations.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 69 м.
SurfaceDirt 100%.
Риски This demanding mountain path differs from the ordinary inn approach through Trachsellauenen. Steep descending ground and wet soil require experience, grippy footwear and steady footing. Snow, ice or heavy rain invalidate any assumption that a short segment is easy. Fires and camping are prohibited in the protected area.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 1.5–2 h
With stops | 2–2.5 h This editorial allowance covers the direct descent from the upper signpost. Add the ascent to the start and continuation to Stechelberg separately; SAC’s regular Trachsellauenen approach has a different plan.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose dry, snow-free conditions. Summer and early autumn generally suit the rear valley, but check the descent itself separately. Tschingelhorn has finished its 2026 season; the owner lists the next season from 16 May to 26 September 2027.

What to bring
