Route description

In the rear Lauterbrunnen valley, this mountain passage begins beside side streams and ascends towards Schwand. Usser Schwandbach and Inner Schwandbach reveal the shape of the hillside: water descends from the mountains while the walking path finds bends between channels and steep ground. Beyond the lower crossings, attention shifts gradually to ascending. The way to Schwand belongs to the history of local alpine pasture access; the Trachsellauenen–Schwand–Breitlauenen direction appears in Switzerland’s historical transport-route inventory. Consider that history through the mountain path itself rather than expecting to inspect a mine or old building. Schwand’s upper signpost completes the selected ascent; choose the descent or continuation independently. This is a modest but demanding outing for a confident mountain walker.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Without a car - Hard With children - No With a dog - With caution By bike - No With a stroller - No Mobile signal - No data The lower mountain start requires a separate approach. Steep demanding ground is unsuitable for an ordinary children’s outing, bicycle or stroller. A dog needs confident ability on such paths and must remain on a lead. Check water and reception separately.

Nearby

Trachsellauenen and its historical mining site require a separate approach. Schmadrihütte lies higher on an independent continuation. Tschingelhorn stands on another valley side and does not finish this ascent.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map

Arrive at Stechelberg through Lauterbrunnen and continue on foot. Add an independent approach to the lower mountain start; this ascent is not a confirmed vehicle road to the pastures.
Parking
Tschingelhorn’s owner identifies paid gravel parking beside Hotel Stechelberg. Coins and parking tickets are required. This is valley parking; add the starting approach and returning descent separately.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Demanding mountain bends need steady footing, especially on wet soil. Reassess stream crossings after rain; the existence of a mapped path does not establish safe water. Keep dogs on leads and avoid fires or camping in the protected area. Leave enough daylight for the return.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 1–1.5 h
With stops | 1.5–2 h This editorial allowance covers the selected ascent from the side streams to Schwand. The Stechelberg approach and returning descent are additional. The complete Schmadrihütte outing has a different plan.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose dry, snow-free weather. Summer and early autumn generally suit the ascent, but reassess streams and ground after heavy rain. Snow and early ice need different preparation; ordinary winter passage is unconfirmed.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Mountain footwear, rain protection and a warm layer.
Water and food for the ascent and independent return.
A headlamp, mountain-junction map and an alternative plan for an impassable stream.
