Route description

The valley between Juta and Chaukhi Lake leaves room for an unhurried mountain walk. The pointed Chaukhi massif becomes its principal visual landmark: in clear weather, pause to study the rock faces before continuing through the meadow. Beside the water, the mood changes; sit quietly on the shore and look for reflections when the wind falls. This variant links the lakeside with the Juta area and returns towards the lake along part of the familiar path. For a departure from the village, choose a convenient sequence beforehand and agree the driver’s meeting point separately. The continuation over Chaukhi Pass is not included. Give time to the valley and shore rather than turning a modest outing into an unprepared high crossing.

Nearby

Jutha Waterfall is close to the lakeside part of the outing, but visiting its mapped point needs a separate approach. Chaukhi Pass and the descent to the Abudelauri Lakes are a different mountain journey requiring their own preparation. Plan food or a rest in Juta separately and check that the chosen place is open.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map

Reach Juta via the Sno valley from the Tbilisi–Stepantsminda road. Check the final approach before travelling. Agree where the vehicle journey ends in the village, then continue on foot rather than expecting delivery beside the lake.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 383 м.
SurfaceDirt / grass 88%, Unknown 12%.
Риски Take care on wet earth and stony sections. Mist can hide landmarks quickly, while exposed slopes are an unsuitable place to wait during a thunderstorm. Do not continue to the pass without separate preparation. Choose firm ground beside the water and avoid eroded edges.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 2 h 45 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Keep daylight in reserve for the walk, lakeside pauses and returning along the familiar section. Begin early enough to get back towards Juta comfortably if the weather changes. A waterfall detour and café stops need their own allowance; travel to the village is another part of the day.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose a snow-free period with settled weather. Summer and early autumn suit exploring the valley; in colder conditions, check snow, ice and road access beforehand. Allow extra time for wet paths after rain.
