Route description

The descent begins at Bayssellance refuge in the high Vignemale country and heads toward Gavarnie. The Ossoue reservoir appears along the way, followed by the valley and the pastoral huts of Lourdes and Tousaus. Watching the refuge’s austere surroundings gradually give way to settled valley life is the appeal of this HRP stage. It makes an absorbing conclusion to several days in the high mountains, with Gavarnie offering a gentler evening stop. The route descends through Ossoue and does not include a Vignemale ascent.
