Route description

This extended walk covers Chatyr-Dag’s lower plateau and its northern approaches. It starts on the plateau side of Donkey Trail, follows several directions with returns, makes surface approaches to three named caves and finishes on the northeastern side near Perevalnoye. This is a complete multiday programme with repeated sections, rather than a single plateau ascent. The cave approaches remain above ground; visiting their halls needs separate booking. Open karst terrain alternates with woodland trails and plateau roads. Ayan Reservoir lies near the northern section, but reaching its shore is outside this version. A separate road plan is needed before the start and after the finish.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
For prepared walkers with an independent multiday plan. Arrange cave and protected-section access, accommodation and animal rules separately.

Nearby

The three caves’ internal halls require separate excursions under the operator’s current conditions. Onyx lies near the southern section; accommodation is not included automatically. Ayan Reservoir lies near the northern circuit, but a shore approach and swimming are outside the programme. Chatyr-Dag’s upper summits are beyond this version.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceGravel 3%, Improved surface 1%, Asphalt 1%, Unknown 96%.
Риски Karst hollows, rocky passages and similar-looking plateau roads complicate navigation. Returns and repeated sections require sequence checks. Woodland ground and stones become slippery after rain. Do not enter undeveloped caves independently; a surface approach does not establish a safe underground passage.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 17 h 32 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
A day-by-day plan is not established for this multiday walk. Distribute every repeated section, surface cave approach and northern exit separately. Agree permitted overnight locations, water reserves and the road meeting. Underground excursions require additional time under the operator’s conditions.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose dry walking conditions after checking access and forecast for the entire outing. Plateau fog hides junctions, rain worsens woodland descents and snow and ice change the approaches. Excursion schedules do not establish weather safety outdoors.

What to bring
