Route description

Forest Horizons begins on Shalovo’s woodland side and first takes a northern circuit along pine-forest paths. It later reaches an actual viewing stop above the Luga, passes beside Chyornoye Lake and returns to its original approach. Changing surroundings give the walk its appeal: wooded hills and sandy ground, water glimpses and a wider river landscape. The directorate describes local pine communities as flower-rich forests, with plants of a more southerly character on edges and slopes. Blooming varies by season, so appreciate the woodland itself and its specific water stops. This variant includes northern woodland and short repeated approaches; avoid forcing it into the published main-route timing. A lake-side historical board explains the Luga defensive line, but the board does not establish a visit to a surviving fortification.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
For a prolonged pedestrian outing. Supervise children beside the lake and river slope, considering energy for the full circuit. The operator publishes a walking trail; complete-branch bicycle and stroller access are unestablished. Check dog rules with the directorate.

Nearby

Toroshino, Oparinskoye and Krugloye Lakes belong to the wider woodland surroundings; this variant establishes no separate shore approaches to them. Rubin and Izumrud holiday bases offer neighbouring infrastructure, but services and entry require independent checks. Allow separate time for central Luga and other remembrance places.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The operator recommends a suburban train from Baltiysky Station to Luga-1, followed by bus 139 towards Rubin holiday base. A separate local approach connects the alighting place with Shalovo’s woodland departure. Check the present timetable, stop and return service beforehand, allowing time for the transfer and approach.
By car
The directorate recommends private transport or a taxi to the departure northeast of Shalovo. Choose its roadside approach, continuing the walk on foot. Arrival does not authorise driving along the ecological trail, to the lakeshore or into neighbouring holiday bases.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Identify lawful vehicle standing with the directorate before travelling. Neighbouring holiday bases establish no visitor access; avoid leaving vehicles beside water or on woodland paths.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 114 м.
SurfaceImproved surface 1%, Dirt 1%, Unknown 99%.
Риски Sandy rises, uneven woodland, roots and wet ground require stable footwear. Stay back from the river slope edge and avoid soft lakeshore margins. Walk carefully after rain, using a saved map for tall grass and faint branches. Keep off plants and avoid collecting them.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 3 h 49 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Allow approximately 3.5–4.5 hours for this complete circuit, its northern section, repeated approaches and water stops. This is an editorial estimate for unhurried walking; the published main-route 2.5 hours is not automatically applied to this variant. Add arrival, transfer and the local approach separately.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
The directorate recommends snow-free conditions, chiefly May to October. Spring and early summer offer woodland flowers, later months greenery and water, and autumn changing colours. Specific rare plants are unpromised. Check woodland access separately after the first snow and in winter.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Comfortable closed footwear with a grippy sole
Water and food for the whole woodland outing
Forecast-appropriate clothing and rain protection
Saved map showing the northern section
