Route description

Near Gimreka, woodland gradually gives way to the Lake Onega shore. This Father Onega’s Retreat version follows the forest direction before exploring the waterside of Shcheleyki and making a distinct excursion to Sambo Lighthouse. From the lighthouse, return over a familiar shore section before continuing to the original entrance. Watch the surroundings change: surfaces vary underfoot, rock outcrops appear among trees, and woodland sound gives way to the lake’s open space. The lighthouse is a real destination on the shore branch. Observe it from outside from a permitted safe position rather than expecting to climb inside. The actual Onega shore lies nearby: water, projecting stones and the coastline give the outing a spacious northern character. The Directorate describes pink quartzite, darker rock, pine communities and juniper at Shcheleyki. Look for these details without leaving the path to seek rare plants or collecting anything. Confirm woodland passage before committing to this outing. Present access through the full woodland section is unconfirmed; an official trail description alone does not establish it. Ask the Directorate about the path, entrance and ability to complete the selected version. If the continuation is unclear, avoid forcing a passage through wet ground or fallen timber. The lighthouse shore is best enjoyed with an understood return.

Wet stones, roots and sand affect footing beside the lake; strong wind and waves can hinder passage. Avoid steep edges and expecting a swimming opportunity. Observe the lighthouse from outside. Shcheleyki rules prohibit damaging plants, collecting forest resources, disturbing wildlife and littering; fires and camps are restricted to designated places. Rock escarpments cannot be used for mountaineering or climbing.
