Route description

Oranienbaum II Station is the starting point for a long journey along the southern Gulf of Finland. Railway outskirts and coastal settlements gradually give way to wooded escarpments, open water and old batteries. Bianchi Glade shows why this shoreline matters to migrating birds. The Krasnogorsky cliff breaks the familiar image of a flat Baltic coast: woodland reaches a high edge, while evidence of maritime defence remains beside the paths. The journey links the Krasnaya Gorka fortifications with the right and left batteries of Seraya Loshad, rounds the shore beside Shepelyovsky Lighthouse and continues past Kamenny Cape towards Lipovo. In Sosnovy Bor, coastal walking gradually becomes a passage through town, ending beside Kalishche Station. This version begins east of the directorate’s standard starting point and includes its own town approach. Shore sections alternate with inland passages. Arrange accommodation and the journey home in advance, leaving time to pause at the lighthouse and batteries.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
For walkers prepared for a prolonged multi-day journey through settlements and woods. With children, choose manageable stages and approved accommodation in advance. Suitability of the whole version for bicycles, strollers or dogs is unestablished; check the protected coastline’s rules and each chosen visitor area separately.

Nearby

Krasnaya Gorka Fort Museum requires a separate approach; passing the batteries does not include every interior. Andersengrad is away from this version’s town finish, with fairy-tale towers and sculptures for another walk. Oranienbaum’s palaces and Sergiyevka Park are also outside the route. Check museum hours, admission conditions and individual fortification access with their operators.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
The departure is beside Oranienbaum II Station and the finish is near Kalishche Station. Use the Baltic railway direction from St Petersburg and choose a service calling at the exact station: Oranienbaum I is elsewhere. Confirm current arrival and return services with the operator. The directorate also lists bus route 401 along the south coast; a separate walk to an actual bus stop may be required.
By car
Arrange an initial drop-off on the Oranienbaum II side and a collection beside Kalishche in Sosnovy Bor. This is a linear journey, so a car left at the start requires a separate return. Check every participant’s documents for the border-zone section beforehand. Driving to woodland branches, coastal defences or the water is not assured; reserve access is restricted to public roads.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Discuss lawful arrival arrangements and returning to the vehicle with the directorate before travelling. Woodland entrances and water access do not constitute permission for a car. Reserve restrictions also apply beside historical fortifications.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 604 м.
SurfaceAsphalt 38%, Dirt 14%, Sand 5%, Unknown 34%.
Риски The prolonged journey, sand, woodland surfaces and wind-exposed coast call for spare energy. Follow existing passages beside the cliff and use authorised roads around closures. Avoid unlit rooms and damaged roofs in ruined batteries. Cross roads carefully in settlements and Sosnovy Bor. Do not disturb reserve birds; entry to the reedbeds around Chyornaya Lakhta is prohibited from 20 April to 15 July. For the border-zone section, the directorate requires Russian citizens’ passports and advance permits for foreign visitors; confirm the applicable details with the border service.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 19 h 34 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Plan a multi-day journey with lawful accommodation arranged in advance and time for batteries and the lighthouse. A day-by-day plan is not established. The directorate’s four-day standard scheme and its brief walking-time entry do not establish the duration of this extended version. Choose stages according to group fitness and available lodging; unapproved tent camping on the protected coast is prohibited.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose calm, snow-free weather and sufficient daylight for the full walk. Spring offers migrating birds viewed from permitted locations at a respectful distance, subject to seasonal restrictions. Summer calls for insect protection and autumn for windproof and waterproof clothing. The standard trail’s winter availability does not guarantee safe cliffs or ruins throughout this version. Avoid gulf ice as a shortcut.
