Route description

From Zvenigorod’s station neighbourhood, this run first reaches Nakhavnya Stream, then heads west through woodland and the Shikhovo settlement side. Ostrovnya Stream and the railway passage mark the early continuation, before forest roads lead towards Sima. Exchange the running rhythm for a brief look at this bog waterbody: the author includes a separate quarry approach and return before continuing. Observe the water from firm dry ground and leave the living bog edge undisturbed. Sima is not the end of this option. The onward passage reaches the Setun River near Sharapovo, where the author identifies the usual rest place. A substantial southern continuation then follows woodland roads, Kriushi and the Herzen Sanatorium neighbourhood. The finish is on Polushkino’s railway side. This makes an independent day between two different stations, with a short natural visit midway and plenty of forest movement still to come afterwards.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
Combine a woodland run to Sima with an independent continuation to Polushkino. Nakhavnya, Ostrovnya and Setun provide this journey’s own sequence of watercourses, while Sima’s bog character distinguishes it from an ordinary leisure pond. Enjoy the change from Zvenigorod’s suburban side to the longer forest passages heading south.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
For prepared runners with stamina for a long linear outing, independent navigation and a return train. The full course is unsuitable as a children’s or stroller walk. Complete bicycle passage, dog-access rules and mobile reception remain unestablished. The separate biological station’s rules should not automatically be applied to the entire surrounding forest.

Nearby

Zvenigorod Biological Station is an active Moscow State University research and teaching institution; laboratory visits and educational activities require separate arrangements and are not included in this run. Near the southern continuation is the area of the Shcherbatov estate at Vasilyevskoye, known for its Gothic Revival castle. The own course follows the road outside a confirmed estate-park visit, so plan castle viewing separately under the sanatorium grounds’ rules. Polushkino’s quarry sites, suspension bridges across the Moscow River and other excursion routes are not automatically included in this option. Forest watercourses are not confirmed drinking-water supplies.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Arrive at Zvenigorod station on the Belorussky direction and walk separately to the departure road side. The finish is beside Polushkino halt on the Smolensk, or Belorussky, direction; use the permitted approach to the required platform and choose a train that stops there. The 192 km halt appears in the early portion, but using it to shorten the outing requires checking present services and connections independently. Zvenigorod and Polushkino are separate arrival and return points.
By car
Arrange a lawful drop-off on the road side of Zvenigorod’s station neighbourhood, and collection near Polushkino’s railway side after the full outing. Decide how to recover a car left at the start of this linear journey. Woodland clearings, the Sima approach and the scientific institution’s grounds are not vehicle approaches for support.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. Check drop-off and lawful parking conditions near Zvenigorod separately from collection arrangements at Polushkino. Keep vehicles away from railway crossings, forest entrances, gates and the bog approach to Sima.

What to expect

Places
Nakhavnya Stream a real watercourse early in the outing from Zvenigorod, beside a small pedestrian bridge.
Ostrovnya Stream an open woodland stream section beside the continuation towards Shikhovo.
Sima Quarry a real named waterbody in the nature reserve’s bog landscape, viewed briefly from dry ground rather than from the floating vegetation mat.
Setun River near Sharapovo a separate local river associated with the author’s rest stop, rather than Moscow’s urban Setun.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainСуммарный набор высоты — 607 м.
SurfaceImproved surface 24%, Asphalt 16%, Dirt 9%, Unknown 44%.
Риски A substantial forest journey to Polushkino remains after the short Sima approach. Treat the bog margin carefully: floating vegetation, wet moving ground and water are not a firm shore path. If a safe dry approach is unavailable, limit the visit to stable ground and withdraw. Cross railways near Shikhovo and at the finish only through current permitted crossings. Slow down on settlement road connections. Rain softens the ground and low areas, while forest junctions need independent navigation. Do not bypass closed gates or private roads through fences. Leave natural ground free of litter, damage and unauthorised fires.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Расчётное время в пути 6 h 25 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
The complete duration of this particular Zvenigorod–Sima–Polushkino option is unestablished. Keep a day free for the station approach, return from the short quarry visit, a Setun rest and the substantial southern woodland portion. The author’s rest stop does not establish a present organised service. A day-by-day plan is not established. Keep daylight and time in reserve for the return train.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose a cool snow-free day after the forest roads have dried. Even in dry weather Sima remains a bog place, so the appearance of the margin does not establish firm ground. Spring and rain make low areas harder; set out early in autumn. Check a winter repeat separately, and do not shorten the course over lake ice.
