Route description

Gorky Park currently has partial closures in the Parterre, including Fountain Square and the Main Entrance; the operator lists Pushkinskaya Embankment as open to pedestrians. Check available passages before walking and keep to the open riverside section. Walking from central Moscow to Sparrow Hills changes the scale of the city before your eyes. Beside the Kremlin wall, the day begins with close, thoughtful stops: the Eternal Flame, the Ruins Grotto and the paths of Alexander Garden. The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and the Moscow River River follow, opening the scene from the dense historic centre into embankments, bridges and a long view of the water. Continue unhurriedly and watch Moscow from the riverside. Park sections offer pauses, while the final ascent towards Sparrow Hills brings a different sense of height and openness. The memorial to Herzen and Ogaryov adds a smaller literary moment, recalling that celebrated city places also carry personal histories. It is a rewarding way to connect individual images of Moscow into one continuous walk.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
Children accustomed to long walks need breaks and the option to finish early. The climb towards Sparrow Hills complicates a full stroller outing; inspect stairs and alternatives locally. Gorky Park prohibits the presence of bicycles on Pushkinskaya Embankment between Krymsky and Andreyevsky bridges, so do not plan to complete this walk with a bicycle. Dog rules vary between individual sites, and reception along the complete walk has not been checked.

Nearby

The Moscow Kremlin Museums suit a separate visit near the beginning, with tickets selected in advance. Parks beside the Moscow River allow you to linger after the walk. When adding a museum programme, shorten the walking part so each stop can be enjoyed without rushing.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Rutrail identifies Teatralnaya metro for the start and Vorobyovy Gory metro for the finish. Use a suitable central exit for the initial approach. At the finish allow for the descent from the upper part of Sparrow Hills to the station. Returning from the other station is easier than retracing the whole walk.
By car
Leave a vehicle in a lawful urban space and arrange retrieval after the finish separately. Central road access may change during events; riverside and park paths are not an extension of the drive.
Parking
Free or dedicated parking for this walk has not been confirmed. Use lawful city spaces after checking signs, payment and temporary restrictions. A station-to-station walk generally makes vehicle retrieval less convenient.
