Route description

The walk from Verbilki to Dmitrov begins in a settlement whose history is tied to Gardner porcelain and ends beside an old town with a monastery and Kremlin earthworks. Woodland roads, rural passages and the flooded Ochevsky quarries lie between them. In Verbilki the route introduces the surroundings of the factory grounds; the alternating settlement and woodland landscape then reveals the variety of northern Moscow Region. In Dmitrov, pause beside Borisoglebsky Monastery and leave time for a short approach to the Kremlin. Spread the crossing over separate days so the industrial history of the beginning and architecture of the finish receive as much attention as the journey.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
The author considers the route technically simple and family-oriented, but the entire crossing requires endurance and separate walking days. Choose a manageable daily section for a child. Some overgrown places require cyclists to dismount. Dog permission at the monastery and industrial grounds is unconfirmed; continuous stroller access through the woodland is not established.

Nearby

A Verbilki factory tour is a separate visit beyond the normal passage; ask the factory about current booking availability. In Dmitrov, P.A. Kropotkin’s memorial museum explores the scholar’s final years. Museum interiors and a walk inside the Kremlin need extra time beyond this selected crossing.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map

Choose a train serving the required station and check the return from Dmitrov; allow separately for the railway approach after finishing.
By car
There is no confirmed current vehicle-access plan for an intermediate overnight stop. If using daily transfers, agree precise meeting places beforehand and avoid planning vehicle travel through the woodland sections.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceAsphalt 22%, Dirt 11%, Sand 8%, Unknown 53%.
Риски The author warns about overgrown and muddy woodland places where the direction can be less obvious than on settlement streets. After rain, the quarries and earthen roads require care; keep back from shore edges. Choose safe crossings of local roads. Cyclists should expect dismounting, and monastery access must follow its current visitor rules.

How much time to allow

Оцените свой темп
Time for the route 10–12 h
With stops | 13–16 h Plan 2 days of walking, following the route author’s recommendation, and arrange accommodation or daily transfers beforehand. Museums and a factory tour require extra time and separate booking; do not automatically include them in the walking day. Add the approach to Dmitrov station and a train margin at the finish.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Choose stable weather and sufficient daylight for the long woodland days. In late spring and summer, bring insect protection; in autumn, allow for mud and earlier darkness. Winter needs its own assessment of snow passages and daily timing. Check the condition of route markings before leaving.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Broken-in footwear for earthen roads and dry socks.
Water, food, rain protection and seasonal insect protection.
