Route description

This Orlyonok circuit has two different woodland sides. It first follows the Bolshaya Olkha side and climbs through the forest toward the Old Fortress district. It then turns north and returns through Smolensky Creek valley toward Orlyonok. Rather than continuing far into the plateau, the outing provides an independent forest day returning to the familiar railway beginning. The climb brings a clear change from river valley to wooded slope, while the return has a different pattern of turns. Preserve the selected direction: ascent comes from the Bolshaya Olkha side, leaving Smolensky for the return. The way passes through the Old Fortress district but does not reach the rock pillars themselves. Visiting the formation requires a separate branch. Prepare the outing according to present woodland passage and all river crossings. Older accounts of cleared skiing refer to particular seasons; today’s circuit can require more attentive navigation and walking through an awkward steep section.

Route at a glance

Главное за минуту
For two wooded valleys in one outing: Bolshaya Olkha shapes the beginning and Smolensky Creek the return. This order first gains height from the river side before exploring the northern section on the descent. The interest lies in woodland ways and the hollows between them, without a required climb to the rocks.

Route suitability

Кому будет комфортно
The Orlyonok beginning and return allow arrival by suburban train. This woodland ski circuit has river crossings and a descent along the Smolensky Creek side; confident braking, navigation and readiness to walk an awkward steep section are needed. The full variant is unsuitable for beginner children. A bicycle or stroller does not suit the selected winter course. Dog rules and mobile coverage are unknown. Present continuous ski preparation and crossing usability are unestablished.

Nearby

Old Fortress is a separate branch to natural rock pillars resembling walls, rather than the remains of a historic fortification. The selected circuit does not reach the formation itself. Pionersky, Trolli, Uglovoy and Smolensky rocks are also outside the confirmed stops. Vityaz, Medvezhata and Zerkala require other continuations. Prepare rock visits, former quarry exploration and a return through Rassokha separately. Rentals, heated premises and operating food places throughout the circuit are unconfirmed.

Getting there

Варианты и важные моменты Show on map
Without a car
Arrange arrival and return through Orlyonok railway halt. Check present suburban services, operating days and permitted platform access toward the forest. Leave a reserve before the return train for river crossings and walking an awkward slope. No intermediate public transport stops have been confirmed on the circuit. Continuing to Rassokha is outside this outing and does not replace a prepared return.
By car
Check car access and permitted drop-off near the railway side of Orlyonok. The outing returns there, so moving a vehicle to another settlement is not automatically necessary. However, woodland roads do not establish through driving or car support for skiers. Do not plan vehicle passage through river fords and old bridge sites without a separate assessment.
Parking
Parking is unconfirmed. No area has been verified for leaving a vehicle throughout the circuit. Arrange permitted parking beforehand or arrive by suburban train. Keep platform approaches, settlement driveways and the forest entrance clear; an empty space near a road does not establish permission for extended parking.

What to expect

Places
Bolshaya Olkha on the Approach and Return the river valley near Orlyonok and the southern side of the forest climb. Check present crossings beforehand.
Smolensky Creek on the Northern Return the woodland creek reached on the selected descent from the circuit’s eastern side. This is the creek and valley rather than the similarly named rock formation.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски River crossings and present woodland descent conditions are the hardest parts to establish beforehand. Do not assume a usable bridge or suitable ice at the initial Olkha without a present check. Smolensky valley can have uneven ground, obstructed passage and a short steep section: walk an awkward part by a safe permitted passage if speed control is insufficient. Distinguish the selected woodland continuation from steeper quarry variants and the Old Fortress branch. Fresh snow can hide an older line, while vehicle ruts can complicate movement. Defer the full circuit if open water, restrictions or an unconfirmed necessary crossing prevents passage. Railway proximity does not replace a reserve of time and energy.

How much time to allow

Расчётное время в пути 3 h 38 min
С запасом на остановки + 30–60 мин
Time for the route | Unestablished With stops | Unestablished Preserve the selected order: the Bolshaya Olkha approach, woodland ascent, turn north and Smolensky Creek return. Allow time for junction checks, river crossings and walking a steep section. Choose the return train with a reserve. An older author’s recorded outing is not a general timing standard; later shortcuts from other seasons are not automatically ready replacements. An intermediate heated shelter and accommodation are unconfirmed.

Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
Winter with sufficient snow and presently confirmed river crossings. Thin first ice does not make the circuit ready for skiing. Choose another checked outing during thaws, open water or unknown conditions at a necessary crossing. Recheck woodland passage after snowfall and strong wind. A summer walk or bicycle variant requires a separate assessment of rivers, steep sections and permitted passage.

What to bring

Базовый список для комфортного похода
Working skis, bindings and boots suited to woodland snow and an independent return.
Cold and wind protection, a dry layer for pauses and spare gloves.
Drinking supplies and food for the entire outing; operating intermediate food stops are unconfirmed.
An offline map of woodland junctions and river crossings, a charged phone and additional power.
A first-aid kit, lamp and suitable repair supplies.
Stable footwear and a way to carry skis safely are needed for awkward walking sections. Share the return plan with someone; equipment does not establish crossing conditions.
