Route description

This winter journey connects two Western Sayan mountain areas: Ergaki and the Aradan Range. Early in the expedition, the group leaves the Tushkanchik valley for its namesake pass and mountain, then reaches the lake side through the winter Artists crossing. A separate ascent of Dragon’s Tooth returns to the valley; snow changes the familiar stone summits and makes this part especially demanding. Next come NKT, Auxiliary, Lazurnoe’s lake basin and Taygish-4. The eastern part reaches Big Buyba and both Fishless lakes before the Tyotki-side return towards Tushkanchik. After independently preparing the southern connection, the Aradan part begins: Peshcherny, Snezhny, Emerald Guitar and Progress precede the valley exit towards Aradan. This encounter with the extensive winter Sayan suits an experienced expedition group. The version belongs to a late-February to early-March 2019 journey; reassess snow, ice, connections and overnight arrangements before a new expedition.

Difficult sections and safety

На что обратить внимание
Elevation gainДанные по набору высоты уточняются.
SurfaceТип покрытия пока не определён.
Риски Avalanches, cornices, buried stream channels, cold and lost orientation determine winter difficulty. Reassess lake-ice crossings: the 2019 journey does not establish safe ice now. A continuous safe connection after the western Bolshoy Kebezh outings, from Fishless lakes towards Tyotki and into the Aradan part is unestablished; the leader must prepare these connections and individual valley passages again. Summits and passes need protection according to actual conditions. Agree visits, rescue notification, control times and emergency exits in advance.

Time for the route | Unestablished With stops | Unestablished Prepare an autonomous multi-day winter expedition. A day-by-day plan is not established. Best time to go

Сезонность и рекомендации
This is a winter version. Choose dates according to actual snow, avalanche conditions, ice and weather in both mountain areas rather than the previous expedition’s dates. Spring warmth and wind redistribution of snow require reassessing plans; a summer journey would be independent.
